Royal Mail £8 Internal Post Handling Fee scam?

As Custardly says, these cards used to be filled out and delivered on the day the customs charge was brought into the office. Due to the staff cut backs and poorly trained staff in the priority services locker, then it rarely goes out for delivery until the next day.
They put a guy in our locker last week, who was just serving customers. Not doing any of the other stuff. So we had quite a backlog to catch up with when it came to surcharges/custom charges.Guess I'll just use email and fax until I've recouped my £8.00. At least we have a choice to avoid RM for general letters and correspondence.
You do? Who delivers these letters and other correspondence? Yes other companies may take a bite out of RM's profit by doing bulk sorting but RM still goes the final mile to deliver.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -
I've just been hit with the £8 royal mail fee wouldn't of minded but the item + shipping only came to $26.91 which is under £18 don't know why i should have to pay it as its under £18. Trying to get hold of customs through the number on the box to find out why i've been hit with vat but its always engaged :mad::mad::mad:0

Very borderline - depends what exchange rate you use. If it's a tourist one rather than the interbank one you might just slip over.
Or possibly HMCE decided the item had been undervalued.0 -

Read my post! - I didn't know the RM delivered faxes and email. How ignorant of me :rotfl:
So u won't need RM ever again? Good for you. Pretty sure the postman who delivers to you will appreciate not having to deliver. Remember customers of RM are at both ends.
Bettz I have no idea, never had the need to call them. My x got caught once, and got a nut kicking for being stupid enough to buy an in car entertainment system from Japan. Needless to say, he got to pay for it himself too
Does look as if they have deemed your item to be more value than was stated on the declaration form, keep trying is all I can advise.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -
How about that, I never knew of this rip off.
Ordered goods of about £35 from USA and got charged £5.54 VAT + £8 Royal Mail International handling fee.
Goods were stamped in USA on 25th Aug 2010,
Mount Pleasant Postal Depot got them 2nd Sept 2010,
I got the dreaded "Unfortunately we can't deliver your item blah blah blah...." Payment due £13.54 Includes a £1 handling fee for underpaid items on 9th Sept 2010, a full 16 days after being in the system in USA
When I questioned the "£1 handling fee for underpaid items." when I went to pay and collect my parcel
I got "we don't have seperate cards to use so just use any we can":rotfl:0 -

the card doesnt state you owe a £1 fee
it states underpaid items carry a £1 fee
and has a seperate box to show a customs fee is due0
