no because this is how the duty has been calculated
they take the value (inc postage if it triggers duty) and calculate on that
theres no way it was £30 given you have £14 worth of duty charged
I payed £32 pounds for the lens privately through pay-pal, he payed the postage of $13 dollars which is roughly £6, so what your saying is i have been over charged?0 -
You'll find that the duty rate on things like that are quite high. Each and every item you can think of has a different duty rate. Then you pay VAT as well on the cost, postage and the duty. Then ROyal Mail charge you about £8 to collect the taxes from you. If you had used a carrier like DHL or Fedex, believe me the admin charges would have been higher.
If you are importing any goods into the EC, you should really check out VAT and Duty implications first. Best thing is to call HMRC, give them the commodity code (this should be on the customs declaration) Check the description matches, then get the duty rate. Do your maths and you'll soon see if you've been overcharged. Then you have to take it up with either Royal Mail (because they got it wrong) or with your seller if he misclassified it.
If you have overpaid, and you still feel in the mood, you can write to the duty repayment office at Dover, and ask for the difference. They will expect you to send proof of what you actually recieved with your claim.0 -

Ok take the card to royal mail, pay it, when u get the package it will have a sticker on the packet. £8 of this will be a charge from royal mail. Any other charges you think are unfair you will need to take up with customs. It's them who have charged the rest, the RM part is only a handling fee. It's HMRC who dictate how much tax is to be paid. Maybe they thought the lens was new, therefore set a value on it as a new item, maybe if they see the cost of the item they will recalculate the charges.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0

Notice how the customs box is checked.. That should give you an idea
Hello crackers , look like you are another one for specsavers, are you a postie too;)
Yes I can see the customs box checked.
I can also see the confusing..... "Includes £1 handling fee for underpaid items " directly underneath, if that fee didn't apply then you'd have though they would have crossed it out and put something like
" Includes £8 RM collection fee" or is that too logical?0 -

so not the wrong card
you just find it confusing?0 -
john, you're wrong. The card is correct and the meaning is clear.
And no john, someone saying you're wrong does not make them a postie.0
