    Hello,

Coxy sorry to hear about the job loss.

Cooked some lunches for me last night and froze them, prepped a big cheap joint of pork (into stir fry strips, schnitzel type cuts and some to add to my lunches). Last nights' dinner was fish pie that I had in the freezer (doubled up when I cooked it last month). Tonight I will prep some buffalo chicken and lamb meat balls for later in the week.

Another SFD. Super busy at work but I'll make time for the gym at lunch time. So good for the head to get away from the desk.

    Day 13

Well everyone is doing very well - no-one has put themself on the naughty chaise-longue, so for a few days (maybe more) we are going to explore the Scandinavian concept of Lagom (lah-gom).

You may have heard of hugge (hoo-gah) which is about savouring simple daily pleasures and enjoying moments of calm (and cosiness).

Lagom is a lifestyle choice (sorry that's what the book says) with balance, modesty, unfussiness and contentment at its heart. Lagom means just the right amount and it seems to fit well with the turtle ethos in general and this month's challenge particularly.

I'm not asking you to do more. I will be picking and choosing snippets - if you want to make all your furniture from pallets there are books and threads to help. Some of the things will be familiar and some of you will do them all the time - in which case give yourself a gold star and feel smug all day (not modest).

Here and there, there will be the odd nugget that makes you think - I found one that is blindingly obvious now but I hadn't thought of it before (hanging things you wear together on the same hanger so you can grab a whole outfit). As usual take and adapt any that are uaseful, discard the rest. You can be as lagom as you want, it's not about being perfect, it's about what's right for you.

    Lagom Home - energy saving
Make draught excluders to reduce the draughts under doors. If you have old fashioned windows you can make draught excluders for theses too.
Ditch the tumble dryer - line dry or hang on a rack indoors
Have a bundle of throws to cosy up in on tv nights instead of turning up the thermostat.

Apparently it's also World Kindness Day

I have made a big pan of bacon soup (cut the bacon with scissors, less stress on my arm, used pre-chopped onions and most of a bag of sprouts from the freezer. Chilli with mince from th freezer, pre-chopped onions, 2 tins of tomatoes and 2 kidney beans and most of a bag of frozen peppers. Had 2 trays of mediterranean roast veg (ys 10p each) for breakfast, with throw the leftovers into the next meal I 'cook' - it's more throwing things in a pan.

DS2 and his friend may be bringing his bed frame around (I have to buy a mattress). He's downsized to same frame but right size for his mattress. DS3 and Beloved need a new mattress and I thought this frame would be much stronger (as well as larger) that theree current cs one.

Mum has given me a humongous shopping list (mainly for the Christmas fair) and I need to take her suitcase back so she can pack for next weekend. May take the suitcase, nip in a shop to buy a birthday card then carry on to Tessimos for everything else and get a taxi from there.

Will finish my bacon soup (quality control) and chill for a bit.

mothernerd - I always use scissors to cut bacon :) I also use kitchen scissors to cut pizza - which people think is weird :D - I've had pizza wheels, but never got on with them and they are a one-purpose gadget. MY purple kitchen scissors make me happy (colour and the feel/ holding of them) and they are multi-purpose :D

I butcher my chicken with my kitchen scissors. I have poultry scissors but they're not sharp enough and knives don't work that well or slip

lcc86 - I didn't realise how unsupportive our old mattress was until I replaced it, I should have done it a few years ago really especially as we couldn't turn over in it without using the headboard for leverage:eek:.

Half day today so I am having lunch then doing my online grocery shop, dog walking, ironing then out for the school run followed by a run after tea.

So sorry to hear about your DH's job Coxy, make sure you research what you might be entitled to, just in case.
Fingers crossed for the other post having DH's name on it too.

Got given a box of Roses yesterday for a kindness I did an acquaintance - discretion being the better part of valour and all that, I did not mention the whole vegan thing, just graciously accepted, said my thanks, and will recycle / donate to foodbank.
I am touched they bought me anything tbh, and someone else will get to enjoy it. So their kindness will touch more than one person.

The kids and DH were unimpressed though! Graceless fools. It would only have embarrassed the lady, and made me look ungrateful. Did I do right? I think so, but it has started a debate in the household.

YS bargains are doing well. Keeping all spends very low, if any at all.

Rescued DH from the pounding rain when he got a puncture in his bike tyre and I rode to the rescue (well, drove) to pick up my princess by the side of the road. Scary driving and scary rain yesterday. Eeek! Role reversals! Yay!

    Keep warm and toasty turtles!

I think you did the right thing. If you don't know the recipient that well you can't be expected to know their dietary requirements and being put on the spot for the wrong gift. The thought counts here and all that more than the actual gift. :)

mothernerd - I always cut up bacon with scissors! And I love the sound of your bacon soup. I may just make some as we have all the ingredients. No sprouts, but we do have cabbage - just an oversized sprout, really!
