Oled tv screen burn

  • Interesting. Just dug out the John Lewis warranty they gave me at the time and no mention of screen burn anywhere in the policy, certainly not under exclusions. Looked up a brand new replacement set and checked out the 5 year warranty and the latest policy specifically includes screen burn.

    Here you are https://www.johnlewis.com/customer-services/guarantees

    Extract from above

    Your guarantee won’t cover:

    • Accidental damage, for example if your TV has been dropped. You may find that this type of damage is covered by your household contents insurance policy, or you can buy Protect Plus for your TV
    • Image ghosting or screen burn. These can appear on a screen that's left operating for a prolonged period with either a still image or a channel constantly displaying a logo
Good Luck with it - JLP agreed in a small cash payout for my TV - I still have my OLED - it is permanently damaged.  I replaced it with a Samsung QLED which is explicity guaranteed to not get ghosting or burn for 10 years

My opinion of JLP diminished from that incident onwards... :(
  • Good luck! The more ammunition you can gather together the better. Several of us now have received replacement tv or compensation. I think LG and retailers now concede that some early oled panels were faulty and are more inclined now to rectify. What annoyed me most was the initial claim (by LG, retailers and some comments on this site) that we were responsible by leaving the tv on pause for hours at a time. Utter tosh!!! It may be your claim will be met without a problem but if not - don't give up. Threaten with going to the papers, tv or direct to the managing director (worked for us). Lots of good information and advice from subscribers to this thread, also search the internet. "Illegitimi Non Carborundum". Again, good luck.

Thanks for your replies. I’ve just been back through the policy that was sent to me by email the day after purchase. There is no comment at all re screen burn, so that must have been added after I bought the set in 2017. I’m certain the latest policy I saw yesterday specifically covered screen burn, but can’t find it right now. I’ll go back through my web history later to see if I can locate it. Had a call from the repair guys to confirm they will be here Monday, so I’ll update after they’ve been.

Apologies, it was in the Accidental Coverage, not the basic warranty. Cannot post a link yet...

    What is insured?

    • ✔  immediate protection of your product from accidental damage (including TV screen burn)

Repair engineer booked by John Lewis arrived and was here all of 5 minutes. One look at the screen and he said it has screen burn and he will order a new screen. It will take 3-5 days and they will call me when it is here and make an appointment to fit it here.

I asked if there was a charge and he said no, it will be covered under warranty.

Right now I feel I must be dreaming or living in an alternative universe. I was all set for a battle and was mentally preparing my letter of complaint, but nothing.

If it happens as promised, then my faith in John Lewis is undamaged.
I sincerely hope for all, they are starting to treat their customers with the same care as Amazon.

What a difference 18 months makes....  I got the right run around with John Lewis. I was quite taken aback by their stance if I am honest as I had never previously returned or had cause for complaint with anything I had bought from them.
Glad you got the service that I would have expected.  Instead I got a small cash settlement which was around 20% of the purchase price of the TV.

    Scarred for life sadly.
  • Excellent news! These companies are starting to realise there was an obvious manufacturing flaw in the early oleds and can no longer blame the customer for screen burn. Power to the people!

I'm hoping someone can help. I want to access the number of hours my two LG Tv's have run. One is a B6 and the other a B7. I've searched high and low via Google and AV forums, but they all lead to an hours timer in General/About this TV which is definitely not there on sets supplied in the UK. Does anyone know how to access the total run time for each set or is it not there on UK sets?
Still waiting to hear about my replacement B7 screen with burn in. The B6 shows no signs as yet, so I would like to compare the number of hours run on each set.
    Grateful for any info....

Hello all, I'm new to this forum and thread and have one of these LG OLED's (55") which has become unwatchable lately due to the burn-in of artifacts. I landed here as part of my search for a solution. May I please ask some questions?
I too bought mine from John Lewis (c2017?), I believe the standard warranty has expired by now but were your sets within warranty when you got replacements? I see mentions of engineers, Is booking a service/repair from John Lewis the start-point in all this? Sorry for so many questions, It's taken me a while to find people talking sensibly about actual solutions and I'm a bit spurred-on with the hope of a remedy. I guess I just would like to know where to start and how to approach this. Thanks all.  Paul
