    Morning folks!

Dawn - peanut butter should be essential to EVERYONE (apart form nut allergy sufferers). Hubby and I get through a kilo a month :rotfl:

BB - sounds like you've had a lot going on!

Will have to post and run - my pc is running something quite memory intensive and it keeps failing when I type!

    Ok, adding list...
    • B/L/D from stores
    • Gym at lunchtime - done
    • Charge phone in work
    • No alcohol
    • No sugary stuff
    • No cafe after work - looking increasingly tempting :rotfl: also goes for the above.
    • Knit sock - am past the gusset now so plain sailing til the toe
    • Heating off. My power company are having the addabs because I'm not using enough gas for their liking. Idiots - I have a smart meter - they can see what I'm using!
    • Message someone on FB market about a new breadmaker. Ours has developed a leaky pan but I can't find either a replacement pan or a replacement seal (hints to Ally as she's good at finding things)
    Have a good one all

Hi all - just popping in quickly! Thanks for the thread purps :T

Last couple of days have been a bit spendy and I'm feeling all discombobulated. It was mostly budgeted for but I still feel quite guilty about it IYSWYM.

Anyone else finding the Christmas "offers" overwhelming already? I just don't have the mental space to tackle Christmas yet. We have to sort out when we're seeing all the family too, which always stresses me out. I am definitely much more influenced by a sense of obligation than OH... He probably has the right approach tbh.

    Today I will:
    - make a meal plan
    - start sorting a "big shop" list
    - finish off online study module
    - book in to some gym sessions
    - walk dog
    - do 5-10 mins of yoga or meditation or SOMETHING to calm down
    - text local friends re drinks soon
    - text non-local friend re coming to visit

Hope all ok today :) - will catch up later on!

Sometimes life is spendy - try not to feel too bad :)

Are you getting the offers via email? I find it helpful to unsubscribe from as much as possible

  • merida act now and speak to people about not giving gifts and instead organise a get together - maybe a nice winter walk with a pint at a pub/meal at a pub so everyone just buys 1? Or I know Dawn does a secret santa with her family - 1 gift up to a maximum of £50 and that's all. Get everyone involved in the family network :D

Or do what I do and don't get for anyone! I get a small something for madam and a couple of bits for my dd - I've picked up a lovely lamp in TK Maxx, am making her a patchwork quilt and a pair of socks and that'll be it. I'll probably buy my son stuff for a mega cooked breakfast from a quality butcher.

    Afternoon all,
Boiler man is coming back on Friday afternoon now, fingers crossed that this fixes the problem. With vat we are now looking at just over £600, if we hadn't have already booked our time away for half term next week we would have stayed home but we have and I'm sure we'll all have a fab time. Will certainly make the most of the accommodations heating and hot water!

I've come up with a new budget now for next two months, and we've decided to reduce our xmas gift budgets by 20% a person too, to help build up the emergency fund again. Last year our big american style fridge freezer broke a week or so before xmas after we'd stocked it all up, so after cooking up a storm at 4am we had all the family over that night for an extra christmas dinner, before then having to buy new fridge/freezer and restock it. So I know that we need to keep the fund building as you never know whats round the corner.
Currently waiting for my onions to infuse the hot milk ready to make cauliflower & brocoli cheese for another night this week. Hubby is on holiday from tomorrow so having these meals prepped will save the temptation of him saying "shall we just get a takeaway?" and its using up things we already have so that hopefully I can turn that fridge/freezer off for next week.

Right I'll stop feeling sorry for myself and get on! (and have added a jar of coffee and a bottle of squash to my shopping list to donate to the foodbank because I do know how lucky we are)
Sticking with the "Small things" thread to keep up us on the straight and narrow.
  • Afternoon,

Today has been a bit of a blur.. I had a very long lie in that when I woke with a headache! I had planned to meet my friend for afternoon tea so once up, had to quickly get ready for that and off we went. £12.95 later, food in my belly and enough cake left to take home with me which I will give to the boy later.

I have been feeling rather flat lately, so it was good for me to get out the house, even if I had to force myself.

The plans for the rest of the evening involve picking the boy up and taking him to a taster session of a new activity. If he enjoys it then its another form of exercise he will participate in each week. He is so active that I can't keep up.

I then need to nip to the shops to pick up some bits that my friends have asked me to get for them. I mays well whilst I am that way. I will get the money back for these.

Then it will be time to go home, have dinner and I am going to try and sort out my mums home insurance for her as renewal is due soon.

I am at work tomorrow so will leave purse at home so I have a NSD. I am trying to watch the pennies.

Yes, our family do a secret santa for the adults (all my 3 children are grown up and married / partnered with their own children). None of us likes the hype of Christmas shopping, the crowds, horrible music, advertising, consumerism etc, and we all lucky enough have enough stuff tbh. My kids came up with the idea, which felt a bit odd to me at first (ie not to be giving them a present), but was happy to go with it! So each adult buys one present for one other adult. One or the other of my DDs organises a draw each November, where we each pick a name out of a hat. All the kids get presents from everyone though, but not necessarily big expensive ones!

I do buy them all nice birthday presents but that is spread out a bit more through the year! I buy presents as and when I see them - I bought a lovely pair of gold ear rings yesterday, from a fellow dealer at the shop where my sales unit is located. They will be nice for one or other of the DDs for a birthday, or if I happen to draw their name out of the hat, for Christmas :)

Thanks. I've just been out for a test-drive and it was well worth having to hang around the shops for 90 mins while the mechanic built it for me. This will be my only fitness expense for the next 12 months and will save on petrol too. And no more Bike And Go hire costs.
