It's threads like this that make me wish MSE would create a "Gold threads" area where all the most entertaining ones could be put for me to read when I'm halfway through a quiet night shift.0

But the idea of a normal person "hiring thugs" is a fantasy, probably based on some kind of soap opera.
If I go into town now, there will be people on Spice etc.
But the idea of me going up and buying some Spice, or in any way getting involved with them is just ridiculous.
That's not the way things work. Criminals and junkies etc exist in their own social groups.

I think Days and GH had some mob people story lines.

You will not find any sympathy here when you owe thousands to a landlord. Regardless of if the landlord is living it up in Rome or dependent on your rent to survive himself you still legally owe him the money, which you yourself agreed to upon signing your tenancy agreement, you come across as entitled by some of the things you have written.
You should have moved out long ago, into a friends or relatives where they could have assisted with your care with you being ill, not sponge off the landlord.
You may think this sounds harsh but you cannot expect to drag this out any longer than you have. You already had the court postpone once. Its not hard to change a hospital appointment so you could attend the court case to argue your side (which would have have been pointless reading this thread).0 -
There are landlords who see a rental as a two-way transaction, and that is how it should be. It entails rights and responsibilities. I know how it is because I was once a landlord myself.
My landlord however thinks the agreement only says that I should pay the rent on the due date and nothing else. He is abroad and unreachable by phone and quite frankly he couldn't care less if the flat falls to pieces, so long as he gets his sodding £4,000 on the due date.
When I ran into trouble I expected that this man, with whom I had been in very good terms for years,
and with whom I had been EXTREMELY patient, because he's done ZERO maintenance, would afford me some flexibility and some kind of accommodation. I expected we would meet and discuss it. I was going to propose to him a payment holiday of about 4 months and then that debt could be spread in the following months. This would have been perfectly possible as it would give me the time to raise finance elsewhere.
As it happens, he didn't meet me, he texted me aggressively, threatened me, gave me impossible deadlines and I started to get health issues. He wanted ABSOLUTELY no discussion of terms - nothing. He just wanted his money and fast.
So I decided that the relationship had fallen through and I made no efforts to raise any funds or
pay him anything while the proceedings were ongoing (whats the point:?).
I have very bad feelings towards him for attacking me in my current situation. He is very aware of
my health problem and he doesn't care one bit.
However, you've really got to stop playing the "vulnerable" card. At the point you decided "I'm going to string this out as long as possible", you knew the "possible" would end some day, possibly with very little notice. The sensible course of action would have been to ensure you had a backup plan before the court date. When you're deliberately trying to prolong your possession despite knowing you're going to lose it some day, you have no business whining that it's a stressful situation and it's unreasonable to give your landlord possession at short notice - the stress is entirely of your own creation and could have been easily avoided.0 -
