SMETS 1 Meters - No More

Pretty much common knowledge due to various reports and articles that the SMETS2 rollout has begun which should mean that the SMETS1 rollout has ended. Further, the OTA update of SMETS1 meters which should have been started in November 2018 has been delayed until 2019. And that's about it: Not a lot has changed recently.
I know that the supplier I recently switched to, EDF is reporting "The new generation of smart meters is here" in my online account but whether that means SMETS2 is not clear.0 -
"Gaz and Leccy" should be turning in their £224 million advertising campaign grave.
My understanding is that SMETS2 are being installed in flats only and are rolling out only to avoid the ten per cent 'fine' on their annual revenue, leading to multi-million pound penalties.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. I try to be an even-handed poster and accept that you at times may not agree with these opinions or how I choose to express them, this is not my problem. Which of the big six? Where did you get the info from? Can you post a link to it?
I cant post any links to info, as I get the info from working for them, and speaking to the smart meter installers every day!!
Its a total disaster!!
I speak to some installers who turn up, change both meters, cant get them to talk to each other, spend two hours on phone trying to sort it, gets told swap em both again, so does this, then finally gets them to talk to each other but then cant get the elec to ring back & commission.
Another two hours on phone, and gets told to change them again, or put original meters back in and abort!!!
Like I said five times last week (so basically every day) they put a total stop on all smart installations due to the massive amount of failures they were having, the tech line couldn't cope.
Its a joke!0 -
Landys and Gyr are the makers of the most popular SMETS1 meter fitted today. British Gas use them
On their own website , L and G say their meters, the Libra 370 smart gas meter are capable of Over the Air upgrade to SMETS2 spec .Even the older smart gas meter Libra 310 is capable of upgrade to SMETS2 with a module exchange without moving the meter. These are very common smart meters probably the most popular smart gas meter fitted in terms of numbers in the the whole of the UK.
This is not a supplier saying this or a government advert but a manufacturer who would get sued if the facts were untrue

BG are also currently fitting the Landys and Gyr E470 electric smart meter. These meters are also "future proof " and can be upgraded over the air from SMETS1 to SMETS2

There is so much misinformation posted on these boards by people who obviously should refrain from posting on topics that they don't fully understand.
You and Anthorn continue to make wild naive assumptions and repeatedly post rubbish about this subject that you obviously have zero technical knowledge on, thus showing your ignorance to all.
The widely installed L&G E470, G370 and G470 meters will likely be adopted onto the DCC via a new separate interface to solve the interoperability problem next year but this does not make them SMETS2 meters and they will receive no mythical "software update" to transform them into SMETS2 meters!
Only the L&G E470-5394, E470-5424 and G370-672 are SMETS2 meters and very few of these have actually been installed to date due to ongoing comms problems.
Back in post #6 of this thread you incorrectly stated that Secure Liberty 100 meters are SMETS2 compatible which is yet again another example showing that you simply do not understand the reality of the situation but don't let fact get in the way of your regular fantasy world rants.
Posting incorrect information multiple times does not make your assumptions correct, it only adds confusion!0 -

In the face of lack of evidence I must conclude that what you say doesn't exist.0 -

in what way am I making wild naive assumptions? Everything I have posted in this thread and elsewhere is based on actual documentary evidence and I have linked to that evidence.
Perhaps you yourself would like to post the evidence which supports your statement which I quote again below:The widely installed L&G E470, G370 and G470 meters will likely be adopted onto the DCC via a new separate interface to solve the interoperability problem next year but this does not make them SMETS2 meters and they will receive no mythical "software update" to transform them into SMETS2 meters!
It's a fact which is supported by documentary evidence that smart meter manufacturers were asked to respond on the feasibility of an OTA (Over The Air) update to make SMETS1 meters interoperable with the DCC . The response was that the majority could be updated but a minority could not be updated. If you want the evidence read back in this thread.0 -

lol whatever, suit yourself!!
I fit meters for a living and have done a long time!
I don't fit smart meters myself, as there is such little demand for them, that a team of us do not fit them at all and still fit old style "dumb" meters!
A search through my previous posts will results in this post from 2014 on page 11...

My doubt doesn't revolve around your occupation but around your statement about smart meters. However you have still not answered my question, "Which of the big six?"
But let's look at your statement:Like I said five times last week (so basically every day) they put a total stop on all smart installations due to the massive amount of failures they were having, the tech line couldn't cope.0
