Quote The government has announced first generation smart meters will no longer be deployed following the 5th of December.
It will also set out requirements for suppliers to enrol first generation smart meters into the national smart metering network, ensuring that those which have stopped functioning properly will be prioritised.
Ofgem will make sure suppliers are complying with this rule, which will be introduced through regulation in the Smart Energy Code, which sets out the rights and obligations of industry actors in relation to the rollout. Unquote

Yes, I read that but it doesn't give the SMET1 rollout stop date. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

So ,to summarise, for all of us who haven't currently got smart meters -prepare to be bombarded by Utility Co. communications over the next 8 weeks as the suppliers desperately try to shift their stocks of "old" meters:rotfl:
EDIT Interestingly, I've changed to a leccy tariff which requires the fitting of a smart meter. I've been contacted to arrange to have it fitted but during a conversation when I asked for a delay (until after Octopus get their finger out and produce a final bill) ,I've have been told that I wouldn't have got an appointment til end November anyway!!0 -
In the background to the Octopus link was a meter fitter screwing in the dreaded Secure Liberty 100 smart meters which all small suppliers are opting for it seems. They represent value for money and are popular with small suppliers for that reason.
Even Eon, one of the big 6 have jumped ship from expensive Landis Gyr meters for these meters.
These meters have been suitable for adoption into the DCC along with a few other make /models ..They are SMETS2 compatible anyway, despite being a very poor user unfriendly meter.
They have been installed in the UK at first by Ovo as smart PAYG and according to this link below they will become smart once again even though many are now dumb https://www.smartme.co.uk/technical.html0 -
I think this is old news, as this was in a report back in April?
However we were all expecting the date to move out0 -
I predict that Ofgem will soon revise the stop date to:
31st December 21,999.
Yes, you read that year right.0 -

On the basis of that link I'll give Octopus a miss if they ever come up at the top of a price comparison....You’ll know by now: the government has pledged to get a smart meter in every UK home by 2020. This is a pretty huge project to undertake, meaning there’ve been some unforeseeable speed bumps and setbacks - though as of right now, nine million smart meters have been installed across the country, so the government’s roll out plans are well on their way.
If they don't know what the Government have actually pledged, and think that having fitted meters in only a third of UK households with only a year and a couple of months to go is "well on their way", then I have to wonder what other gems they might come up with."In the future, everyone will be rich for 15 minutes"0 -
Not quite the full story Hengus.
1) SMETS 1 meters in PPM mode can still be installed until 15th March 2019
2) Some suppliers have a derogation from BEIS which allows them to install a set amount of extra SMETS 1 credit meters after the 5th December 2018
3) There is nothing to stop a supplier installing SMETS 1 meters after the 5th December although it won't count towards their roll out targets. However if suppliers have left over stock they are likely to install them anyway especially in the North where SMETS 2 coverage issues remain0 -
