  • sorry to say the co-op wont allow you a savings account....I've tried & been declined & I have an account with them (not just me though a couple of other posters I know have tried & been declined as well for savings accounts)

How about opening a co-op account for yourself & the post office for a savings account...they dont credit score...I opened one with no trouble

Well thanks for that, you learn something new everyday :j
I had debts, my circumstances changed, I tried but couldn't pay them, I dealt with them in the best way I could.........

I've had a cashminder acc with the co-op since my BR date in march, I tried a few weeks ago to open a savings account and ended up declined almost straight away.....to be honest you'll struggle to find very much apart from the PO...up till being declined I had no idea either!

I just want to start being able to save for my son now and if its just a post office account, anything is better than nothing.

I know with a post office account i'm unable to have my benefits and wages paid into.

My dad has an account that he no longer really uses and I have managed to switch everything well nearly everything to that account. Some companies won't do it over the phone as the account is not in my name. You would think that the tax credit and working tax would be the same but sure enough they changed it for me.

I made my life a bit easier yesterday to by taking all my paperwork to the OR's office yesterday it was a 20 minute walk from me so I thought instead of buy 3 or 4 big envelopes i shoved it all in a plastic bag and took it down there, received a receipt for it so I guess i just have to wait until Monday afternoon for my interview.
  • Hi everyone

I have my OR meeting on Monday afternoon  I'm really dreading what to say to the OR about the loan I got for my brother and his girlfriend, this is the only thing that is really worrying me. It was a £15000 loan which they started paying but stopped. I have put that loan in the BR because its in my name. But I don't know what to say to the OR when she asks what was it for. To be honest I know I should tell her the truth but I really just wanna get rid of the loan, but what can I say its a big amount and I just want rid of it.

I have tried to tell my brother that he needs to start paying but its not gonna happen. Plus they are getting ready to have their 4th child whats the chances of me getting the money for that loan now.

So please can someone give me some advice:o
  • Ann, good luck with the OR interview this afternoon ((((((((((hugs)))))))))))

I would just tell the OR that you did a favour for your brother and took a loan out for him, he reneged on the deal/ran into finacial difficulties and you tried to pay it back but were having difficulties and couldn't repay it. Simple as that. Tell the OR the truth.

Will be thinking of you this afternoon. Let us know how it goes.

  • Thank you Tigerfeet.

I figured thats what I should do but will they chase him for the money?

They have not called yet and its 16.12pm I rushed home from picking my son up from school and sorted him out so that he wouldn't disturb me.

I received a letter from the Abbey about the 2 savings I have with them, saying that they have been instructed about my BR. Hopefully I will be getting less and less letters now that people are being informed.

I just want this interview out the way now:o

Yep. I'm afraid you must explain where the money from the loan has gone to truthfully to the OR.

How long ago was the loan paid to your brother?

  • I got the loan in 2002 just before my son was born. I think they paid me for about maybe a year maybe even sorter than that I can't remember but I kept every little piece of paper work for that loan and even a spread sheet.

I know in 2004 I started paying them £100 and I would get money whenever they had it but nothing was consistent.

To me its like they ruined my credit rating even more, if I didn't have that loan on my head I probably could of stood a chance, but as it was in my name I felt I needed to keep up with the payments and this is why i started using credit cards for cash basically robbing peter to pay paul. This is why I'm in such a mess now and have to go down the BR road.

    :o
  • How did everything go Ann? How are you feeling? What did you say?
