Caught Speeding 49 in a 30.

The elevated section through Port Talbot is partially set to 50 for noise, but the other reason is that there are short on ramps with no hard shoulder at the end so it has been risk assessed that a speed of 70mph is too high. I was doing some training with the police riders a couple of months back and apparently there is now a plan in place to shut the Port Talbot M4 junction although I'm not sure how this will work given the complaints last time this was tried.
The extension of the 50mp past junction 42 on the grounds of emissions is a joke given that the motorway is next to South Wales biggest source of air pollution (TATA steel) but the sad thing is people will just accept it and it will remain even though it was only supposed to be a trial
I live in the area, and I would be disappointed if what you are saying is true. Baglan Road isn't designed for this traffic and people won't use the Harbour Way road which was designed to support the hospital's A+E which is now only a minor injuries unit. What they need to do is lose the hard shoulder on approach and make that lane an exit lane.
The trial was brought about by someone who won't be affected by it, and also the traffic in the area has nothing to do with the exits and entrances and everything to do with people's poor driving by driving well below the speed limit in case they get caught by the cameras. An additional element is the reduction from 3 lanes to 2 which at peak times causes a bottleneck. The junctions have nothing to do with it.0 -
May I ask what the outcome was for your driving offence? I’ve just been caught doing 49 in a 30 too0

If that's directed at the OP, their profile shows Last Active: 22 December 2020 at 10:40AM. If you send them a PM or tag them here they might remember that they made their one and only post here 2.5 years ago.Jenni x0

Well I didn't do 49 but i did do 42 and i had the option of a speed awareness course. Probably around the time OP made this thread.I remember something about percentages as far as allowances go. I would've thought 49 would be outside it. 19mph is quite a bit out. 12mph is bad enough mind. I was lucky to 'get away' with it i guess.0

It seems like everyone bar me breaks the law with speeding. Most of the time they are wasting their time energy and money as you usualy drive up behind them at the lights. They just like to get in front for some reason. Some sort of control/oneupmanship issue maybe?0

Some sort of control/oneupmanship issue maybe?Well since you seem to be wondering what the other side of the fence is like, allow me to put forward my POV ... since you've wondered out aloud. If i've overtaken you then SOMEtimes you will get behind me at the lights but MOST of the time you will not."That must mean you're doing twice the limit then, or worse, going at the speed of light even".No, it doesn't does it. It really doesn't.There is no "control" or "oneupmanship", at least from me. I don't get in front of you, slam the brakes on and get out and say ner ner, that told you didn't it. I overtook therefore i'm better.No.Quite simply, I overtake you because I want to go faster than the speed you're travelling and I see a safe opportunity to overtake. Yes you may be doing 50 in a 50 and that's the speed limit. However we're on a long stretch that I can see ahead for about 3/4 a mile to a mile and I want to do about 60 and it's perfectly safe to do so.I don't hug your bumper, I wait for my opening and then I overtake.Yes it's illegal, no i don't 'need' to do 60, but I feel that it is perfectly safe to be travelling at that speed under these road conditions. If you're doing about 60 on the road in question then it is highly unlikely i'll bother to overtake you.The righteous MSEers can stand alongside you now. I'm fine with that.1
