Maman if you haven't got a blender and don't really want one, how about a stick blender? You can pick one up cheaply in most supermarkets for less than £10, however I bought a Bamix about 30 years ago and it came to the end of it's life last year so I replaced it with the same thing as it comes with 4 different blades plus a grinder bowl which I use for grinding spices for my curry powders and pastes. Probably too expensive if you don't do that sort of thing.

Had a bit of a wobble today thanks to Dougie Mac and the annual cake sale at work.... I really didn't want one that much, but then I can't be the guy who doesn't give to charity can I ? So I had one...... except one became two.... whoops.

So two very naughty cakes. Feel like I can't eat again for the rest of the week :D

Ah well, I will adjust my syn intake slightly tomorrow. Perhaps a few less beers, be good all round for me :)

Thanks for that denise. At the moment I don't think I'd want to splash out as I don't think I'd use it too much. Maybe I'll try a cheapie for the time being. I really need to expend my soup range beyond lentil! Being a Welsh girl, I must at least try leek and potato.:D
  • sirens There is nothing quite like a black tea! Tea does indeed contain water, luckily, or I would be dodomed! :rotfl: my ratios are a bit off though, maybe the answer is I just need to drink more tea!

maman - I think it is the cold weather that does it, I just want something warm, and tea is generally the answer. Good idea with the Ribena, I've seen everyone talking about the winter spice one again. While I don't like a fruit tea I love a hot ribena :D

Also I agree with joedenise a stick blender is the way to go! Doesn't take up much room but does the job. Mines an M&S own brand one bought 10 years ago when I first went to uni, and still goign strong :D was only £10 too! (at the time even argos ones were more than that! :money: )

Today I've been both really good and really bad...

Breakfast - 1/2 syn skyr yogurt and half a tube of melon for breakfast (<< speed see :D)

Lunch - I was at Ikea... I love ikea hot dogs, I've figured that's probably about 7.5 syns and I had gherkin for speed :P
However..... I did also have a cinnamon bun, and because it was the opening of the Christmas department there was a man from Slade there (Dave? I don't know...) and they were giving away mini gingerbread things like cinnamon buns, and well it would be rude not to! So yeah basically that was the rest of my syns + some... did do 6000 steps though, which I know isn't much but I've been down to 2000 a day post holiday so it's better than that at least!

Dinner - back on track with a gammon and butternut squash mac and cheese, we do the gammon and butternut squash from the comfort collection book, but the mac and cheese sauce from July (or June?) mag, made with stock, quark, mustard powder and eggs ;) the two recipies mixed are so good!! Definitely one of my favourites! :D

I also accidentally (it's pretty and was in the sale...) bought a top today which is "snug" aim is to get into it before Christmas! I also have a dress to squidge into this winter...

I'm home all day tomorrow so that will be fine, but Sunday the boyfriend has offered to do me breakfast before my work meeting, and dinner after, so that could be a disaster syn wise, so damage control of 5 syns tomorrow! I want to try make some soup too so I have lunches for Monday, Tuesday sorted as they are when I struggle!

Thanks for the heads up on stick blender.:)

I can't believe that a hot dog would come out at 7.5 syns. Surely a white roll would be that at least before anything else. What matters though was if it was worth it! :D When I go to Ikea I have either the gravadlax as a snack or salmon if that's one of the meals. DH has one of the giant meatball meals!

It really is getting close to soup weather. denise , which leek and potato recipe do you use? :)

I don't really use a recipe! I just fry off a chopped onion to soften it, then chuck in some cubed potatoes & sliced leeks, veg stock made with a cube (or stockpot). Cook it until everything is tender then whizz it up in the blender. I tend to season it when it's served as there's plenty of salt in the stock cube. I only need to add a twist or two of pepper.

I'm sure there are loads of recipes online but the above seems to work for me.

One of the soups I make from time to time is a parsnip & apple (usually when parsnips are in the Super 6!). Start off with frying off an onion or two until softened a bit, add some chopped parsnips, along with some veg stock. When the parsnips are nearly done throw in a chopped apple. Blitz until smooth.

If your soup is too thick you can always add a bit more stock or water to thin it down. If it's too thin thicken with a bit of cornflour or xanthum gum (which incidentally if Free rather than sinned like cornflour!).

maman, I use a stick blender for soup now instead of getting the liquidiser out. Mine (Kenwood) has two blender sizes, but I have never used the smaller one. I’ve had it a good few years now, cost about £15 in Tesco. Funnily enough, I don’t blend leek & potato soup! I do boil and mash the tatties before I add them to the soup though! Tomato & basil is easy and tasty too: fry off 2 chopped onions and a crushed garlic clove, add 1.25 litres chicken/veg stock, 1 bay leaf, 2 cans chopped tomatoes and S&P. Simmer covered for 20 mins. Discard bay leaf, puree. Then I stir through 4tblsp ready made pesto. This makes 6-8 servings so it is only about 1 ½ syns per serving by my reckoning.

I was at a great big coffee morning too, Stoke, but, for once I managed to stick to just one cake.

Mad dashing about day today –
    Cleared ICE from windscreen!!!! 2°!!!!!!!
Went to Cumbernauld to get DGS and take him to school in Kilsyth.
Went straight back and took DD and DGD to coffee morning at other grandkids’ school in Cumbernauld.
Took DD and DGS to ‘Pramfit’. They made their own way home afterwards, of course.
Came home to our village, stopping in Kilsyth to get car washed.
Did lots of housework again (I think I’ve been switched!).
Collected DGS from school and took him home.
The distances between the towns and our village are not great, but it still all takes a good chunk of time out of the day. At least that’s time that I can’t be tempted to feed my face!

    Night.

Couldn't sleep so ended up getting up about 5 o'clock having been awake since 3.30am! Not feeling tired at the moment but bet I will by lunchtime! Think it might be because I know DH has to go out about 7 this morning.

I'm hoping to sort out my sewing patterns this morning and find a dress pattern to make as I haven't done any sewing for ages so thought I might make a dress to take with me for my holiday next January.

    Today's plan:

B - bacon, egg, mushrooms, tomatoes, beans
L - tuna mayo salad sandwich, pickled onions, cornichons, beetroot! (was going to be ham but have had to bin it as it smelt off and was very dry)
D - sausage casserole from freezer - not really looking forward to it as it's made with SW sausages and can't say I really like them. Certainly won't be buying them again!!!

    HEA - milk
    HEB - bread
    Syns - LTL mayo 1; weekend wine:D
