Good to see you topgirl and well done on your loss:T. You don't look like a tortoise to me though!;)

I lost over 3.5 stones in just over a year without any excercise to speak of and losing no more than 2lb a week (often less) so you can do this!

That could be me esmy, almost identical. I averaged 1.5lbs a week but it was by no means a regular pattern. And like your friend I never ate a yogurt!

DH decided that as it was chilly and foggy earlier that it was time to have porage! I really enjoyed it but I always have to add in extra syns (I'm estimating 6) for this as he makes a large portion and I love a spoon of syrup on top. I know I could ask him to make a smaller portion but it's a small price to pay for being waited on every morning.;)

    Today's EE plan:
B: NAS grapefruit, HEB porage with HEA milk, half banana
L: LO ham hash and veg
    D: SW tagliatelle Bolognese
    Syns: xtra breakfast 6

Usually today would be the start of a new week of 105 syns but as we're away overnight on Saturday and eating out including party food I think I'll start properly on Monday. The next couple of weeks look gloriously clear!:D

    Welcome Toniq.

When I first started SW I found that adapting the way I cooked my usual meals was the easiest way of getting into it - so, using Frylight instead of other oils and fats, most importantly upping your fruit and veg intake, so adding veg to chillies, bolognese etc, no bread with everything. You don't have to eat anything you don't like - a friend has reached target without ever eating a yoghurt! - as there are many many recipes out there. Pinch of Nom, Two Chubby Cubs have loads as well as the 'official' SW ones. Perhaps if you tell us what kind of meals you enjoy, we can suggest SW friendly ways of adapting them??

I lost over 3.5 stones in just over a year without any excercise to speak of and losing no more than 2lb a week (often less) so you can do this!
To me, Frylight is the easiest change to make to any diet, even if you're not doing SW. Before I started SW, I was trying (on and off) Low GI which suggests using things like coconut oil and beef fats instead of vegetable oil and sunflower oil. Switching to Frylight was so simple, not just because it's swapping one oil with another, but because you can find pretty much your favourite oil of choice in a Frylight form, start using it straight away and immediately cut calories. It's awesome. I believe a teaspoon of liquid oil is around 120 calories. I know not all of that is absorbed by the food you are frying but I suspect it wouldn't take more than 3 or 4 meals to save a couple of hundred calories by just swapping out ordinary oil for Frylight on a day to day basis. The only real negative of Frylight is the price, but with ALDI and competitors putting out their own Frylight, the price has come down quite a bit. It's still expensive compared to ordinary oil but the health benefits outweigh the price.
  • A belated thanks for the chart ChrisV and congrats to V1ckyt for SOTW.

I've relatively hit the reset button this week - though the finger hovers over the self destruct button constantly at the moment.

After everyone raved over the take 5 cookbook, I made the Mexican chicken stew on sunday - it was ok but nothing to write home about though but did provide enough for lunch for hubby & I on Monday as well.

I've had homemade cottage pie with veg as well as well as not joining hubby in having a magnum so I do feel I've been better.

Stoke - is there anyway you could halve the sachets so the syn levels aren't too high? I love porridge but the issue I have with it is that the fact that I virtually wipe out my milk allowance eating it. I found the Quakers Oats Pumpkin Spice porridge being sold off cheaply but although it fills me up and warms me up on these cold mornings, I miss my cups of coffee - more so during the day strangely enough than in the evening.

Its a choir night tonight but I think we'll be finishing early as we've a concert tomorrow but in any event I'm planning something light for tea.

    Have a good day all

GTS I always make my porridge with water as I need to keep my milk for tea! I'm OK when I drink coffee as I drink it black, but don't have it more than once a day. If you can't bear the thought of water how about half water and half milk? You'll still get the creaminess without using all your milk. Alternatively you could use a fat free natural yoghurt to stir through it which is what I used to do when I had porridge at work.

Stoke - SW don't use calories because the syn values don't work out with any accuracy because of "Free" foods! For information, if anyone wants to use ordinary oil, 1 tsp is 2 syns and 1 Tbs is 6 syns (olive oil used to be a HEB when I first started SW - how things change!)

Went to WI this morning and had a 4lb gain but not really that bad as I haven't been to WI for 6 weeks and 4 weeks of it I was away in France with all that baguette & pain raison to deal with, LOL! I'm actually only 1.5lb over top end of target.

As I'm away again next week I'll be happy with an STS the following week (only 3 days after we get back for damage limitation!). I suspect I'm looking at Halloween before being back in target.

    Another Green day today:

B - couple of figs after WI; 1 Hifi Sticky Toffee - it was Ok but not enthusiastic about it, still prefer the Fruit & Nut one
L - 2 pea soup; 1 slice WM bread; veg sticks & raita
D - cauliflower cheese; butternut squash chips.
    S - Ryvita; hummus

    HEA1 - milk
    HEA2 - 0.5 milk; 0.5 cheese (will use a mix of cheddar & parmesan)
    HEB1 - 1 slice bread; 1 Hifi bar
    HEB2 - crackers
    Syns - hummus 2; wine syns:D

Sorry for the long post - a touch of verbal diarrhoea:rotfl:

I might give halving them a try. At this point in my weight loss, I'm comfortable syn'ing things I would have totally avoided before. If it adds an extra week onto my weight loss before I reach target, then it's not as big a deal as it might be.

    Hi Denise,
Sorry, I should have clarified that, syns, HEX's etc are demonstrably not the same as calories. I do however, kind of think it's useful to understand the relationship between calories, syns and 'satisifaction' though and why certain foods are free and why others aren't. If you can get your head around some of the Science behind it, you can make better choices when you are on holiday or away from home with work, for example.

If you break SW down to it's core elements, it is still a loose form of calorie counting (hence why unknown foods can be syn'd at 1 syn to 20 calories).... the guys who do the numbers behind the scenes are using satisfaction, fullness and nutrition as variables. This explains why Muller Lights were recently changed from free to 1 syn per pot; members were consuming far too many, often in a short space of time. The guys who do the syn values, therefore deduced that they are neither satisfying nor filling enough to be considered a 'free food', if people can consume many of them quickly. No idea on the nutrition front mind, probably more nutritious than chocolate hence only 1 syn. It's exactly the same reason why turning apple's into smoothies makes them syn'd.

I think the point I was trying to stress is that, even just swapping from regular oil to Frylight, even if you aren't on SW, you are making a healthy choice. You don't need to understand the maths behind it, just know that it's happening :D

Interesting post Stoke . I've always needed to think about the logic behind SW. Following like a magic formula has always sat uncomfortably with me. That's why I've always preferred a consultant who is prepared to think and stimulate discussion. Sadly too many are like my first one, nice but dim.:)

Maman just been browsing the website and found a Free sweet & sour chicken recipe in the useful features which might be worth a try:

    https://group.slimmingworld.co.uk/recipes/sweet-and-sour-chicken-iceland.aspx

Haven't managed to get out to the motorhome to look for my usual sweet and sour sauce recipe but will post it once I find it!

Agree with you about the dim consultants but she will at least discuss things!

I find it varies. My main consultant is very good and enjoys these kind of discussions, including things like calories. Some of the other consultants I find don't want to engage at all.... run through the 'confession' as it's sometimes called and then are on the way before you can get out the building.
  • Afternoon everyone

1.5 lbs off for me this week

Stayed to class this morning, they were talking about HEX B and how we shouldn't guess the amount, we should weight them, a few people had their eyes opened, as they thought they could judge, say 40 grams of breakfast cereal in a bowl, then when they weighted the bowl it was 70-90 grams
I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it. :)

    Weight loss 3 stone :D

Saw something similar on TV recently. I've always weighed my cereal when I have it, DH laughs at me but I've got so used to doing it I don't find it difficult to do. The advantage of Weetabix or bread is obvious - no weighing you know exactly what you can have!
