Honeybear, would you mind posting a link to H2H, I can't find it on old style or on a Google search. Thanks :)
Welcome, Courgette. You won't find any link to H2H, except in what is normally post 2 (though on this week's thread it happens to be post 20) because it was all Honey Bear's own idea - though she's too modest to say so! - and everything you need to know is here in her latest post:

It's a new idea this year that basically we came up with because some of us realised that we'd been plodding away for years trying to get rid of the accumulated dross and crud that had gathered over decades (in my case) which we just couldn't face living with forever. The idea is to allow a whole year to deal with some fundamental problems that don't get dealt with by just plugging away at the dusting-type flying.
Enjoy being part of a revolutionary movement!

I have had a pretty good day today: I spent 2 hours in the back garden this morning and another 2 hours this afternoon, and made a considerable difference to the tidiness of the flowerbeds and length of the grass (though our drought-stricken lawn still resembles a flock of tufted ducks rather than the coat of a smooth collie) :p
I also sent emails and made several phonecalls, and got through to nearly everyone on the third or fourth attempt
Then I sent out invitations of one sort and another, wrote and posted some cards, and did a few items of shopping, but got caught in the rush hour when I tried to deliver an urgent note to someone on the other side of town for whom I don't have a phone number.

Finally I remembered to take Rosie out for her walk early enough that the sun was still up. Unfortunately, I decided that we would come back through the middle of the wood, just as the sun was going down and the light was beginning to fade. Consequently I managed to trip over a tree root that I didn't spot in time, and did an excellent impression of a baby elephant taking part in the Olympic gymnastics. I managed to roll as I landed, but not before both knees had hit the ground with a mighty thump. I was still 3 parts of a mile from home, with my mobile "safe" at home, so I couldn't even ring DH to come to the nearest road and pick me up. Instead I just had to grin and bear it and walk home. Fortunately it doesn't look as if there is anything wrong apart from a couple of bruises, but I'm definitely taking parrots before bedtime or I won't get any sleep :(

My plans to finish the back garden tidy-up tomorrow have been postponed!

    Flying today was

emptying bins and tidying before an afternoon at work
    vacuuming
    pegging out washing
    leaving house tidy
was back first so i got to enjoy walking in to a still-tidy home
left washing out and fetched it in

could have ironed but went to see Christopher Robin at the pictures with DD

  • All Offspring of the Parish turned up today.

Mildly surprised when I was notified of some of my new roles this year. Nothing too awful as far as I can see, albeit it's beginning to bring in aspects from so many other jobs that it would confuse a cat named Shrodinger twice over. And, on balance, I'm probably being paid more than most people who do any of those duties all the time, even if nobody seems entirely certain what employment category I fall under. Did more prettification of displays, harassing IT, giving the Site Team more work, a small bit of child wrangling and lots of 'Jojo, I need/can we have/could we...' 'Already done it/it's on your desk/saved on the Shared Drive/on the wall/asked IT about it/waiting on x to reply/made a start on it but y was more important'.

Very tired and sore by the time I left work, though. So flying/flapping/fluttering is going to have to wait. Had some food though - two doorsteps of HM bread toast and a packet of smoked mackerel, which is healthier than the tub of dairy free Rum & Raisin ice cream I had last night, even if I did manage to forget my first cuppa of the day and let it go cold tonight.

No real updates from Himself today - he's done some walking, is getting annoyed with his blisters, saw FIL and then was heading back to his Mum's. Didn't sound particularly chirpy, but I think that's probably par for the course.

Going to take my makeup off (yep, I even did that this morning - well, eyeliner, mascara and brows at any rate) and then try to get to sleep earlier.

  • Morning All :)

I was fast asleep by 8pm last night, and feel better for it this morning. DS is overjoyed that mummy can take him to school this morning :)

I have a long list of things to do this morning, but the priority is giving the dog a big walk as she didn't get much of one yesterday. Also need to go back into work this evening for some training.

WM on, DW unloaded, the hob needs a good scrub and general tidying to do.

    Have lovely days all xx

Courgette, I agree with you that you need a certain level of order before getting cracking on Kon Marie - for one thing you need a dustfree clear space to gather stuff together. Besides which, I'd pretty much Konned my way through the house over the past four years and got rid of most of the stuff I realised I didn't need to hang on to, and there are areas she never talks about - the kitchen and all the kitchen gear stashed all over the house for a start. So, first things first.

I'd create one Haven for yourself, one room that you can be in without it shouting 'Dust!' 'Crud!' 'Stuff!' 'Clutter!' every time you go in there. I always choose the bathroom - it's small, it's a place where you should be able to relax and pamper yourself and technically the surfaces should be relatively easy to clean and keep clean. Just a suggestion.

On the subject of dust: when you eventually get round to dealing with a whole houseful of builder's dust, know that you will get on top of it. It looks as though you never will at this stage, but you'll be surprised at how quickly you'll deal with it once you know you're on the right track.

I don't think making yourself spring clean the whole house because you think it needs it is the answer; it's unrealistic and it's over-whelming. My suggestion would be to make sure you've got a LOT of dusters (I probably have 20 or so for when things are really, really bad, and don't be fooled that any old fabric will do - it has to be proper yellow dusters because they hold the dust once they've been loaded up) and just do the worst bits in one room. Don't bother with moving furniture just dust the flat surfaces that you can see. Shake those loaded dusters out at the end of the dusting, and put them to one side to wash when you've got a big pile of them. You can't wash them with anything else, handwashing's a bore and a chore and over the next few days/weeks, there are going to be enough for it to be worth doing.

If you do those two things, you'll Make A Difference (see first post in about half an hour on two days, you'll feel so much better and the house will not be such a drain on your soul and energy. I suspect your house is as bad as this one was when I joined the Flylady Thread over four years ago and I didn't have the excuse that the builders had been here!

It also helps if you re-read the first post on the thread a few times. One of the things about being a Flylady is that you let yourself off the hook, don't get too depressed about it not being all sparkly all the time, and realise that it didn't get into the state it's in overnight, so you shouldn't expect it to be spick and span overnight either.

Keep posting - it really, really helps to know you're part of a group that's battling with it as much as you are.

Dizzy, it's thrilling to know that your dog business has taken off so well and so quickly! Huge congratulations.

Healing vibes, Ionafan. Ouch ouch ouch The rest of the garden ministrations can wait while you recover your equilibrium.

Off out to breakfast with a friend to tell him he won't win a constructive dismissal case, so no matter how badly he thinks he's been treated, please just enjoy being retired. (He won't like it.) Then to the Foodbank for a few hours and then home. I've done the minutes (hurrah!) and now need to move on to my tax return. I never leave it this late in the year so it's become a Frog and I want it munched properly today. I might have already done enough a bit at a time to finish it - wouldn't that be marvellous?
    Better is good enough.

  • Argh.

Nobody mentioned the adding of assessment of building repair effectiveness, identifying and locating plumbing faults, electrical safety or acting as a Builder's Mate to my job description.

Needless to say, I didn't get the jobs I needed to do done today. And there are more things to do tomorrow.

    However, after chugging down my breakfast of a can of energy drink at 5.30pm, I have;

Mucked out the felines and gone back to the nice and easy tray liner refills instead of Fullers' Earth, which weighs a ton. Not very envornmentally friendly, but I've not got the energy to be scrubbing their Little Tray of Evil out when they're obviously too high and mighty to lower themselves to using the designated spot of behind the shed during cooler weather
    Cleaned the shower room floor
Sorted/rinsed and put out the recycling - mixed recycling (cans, bottles, plastic but not film, carriers or soiled with food, cartons), food waste, paper and card.
Picked up and put all non recyclable tut into the general bin
Cleared up all the drinking yoghurt bottles, beer cans, sweet wrappers and crisp packets the Smaller Offspring of the Parish and their parents scatter over the front garden whilst walking on my front wall on the way to and from school

I now have the Idiot Cat asleep across one foot and I might move again in a couple of hours.

Iona hope you're not too bruised.
Spent all morning flying in the garden so we could take the afternoon off. Had a lovely walk through a local park to the white water rafting centre, sat with coffee in the sun watching canoe slalom then walked home.
Took MIL to Mr T then Mr N and I cooked her dinner, sadly she is getting less able.
    Fed birds.
    Watered greenhouse.
Vacuumed hall, lounge diner, kitchen and conservatory.
Remember...a layer of dust protects the wood beneath it.

Grrrr....awake most of the night so far with a barking dog, who does NOT like being downstairs with the other riff raff.

Said mutt is currently on my bed snoring and I AM WIDE AWAKE.

Did I say the business was going well!?!?
