This wasn't actually a laptop, I don't know where that came from, it was an ornament which left me in excellent condition, was extremely well packed with at least 3cm of packing around the extremities as per RM guidelines. The only thing that RM said was the rigid box was 1cm too small in height. I can only assume that the parcel was mishandled when trying to deliver as 5 attempts were made due to weather conditions at the time, i.e. Snow and ice. So it was journeying to and fro from the sorting office for about a week. I have seen how some (not all) delivery drivers handle their parcel. My gripe is that RM will take no responsibility whatsoever and not even meet me half way. They are a multi million pound company and there is no redress for joe public. The £11 cost is for loss or damage but it is impossible to prove that it was damaged whilst in their care.

Define mishandling that doesn't damage the packaging?

Blunt force trauma for example, anyway the ornament was in perfect condition when posted, extremely well packed and broken on arrival. I don't think FRAGILE handle with care carries a lot of weight. Maybe everything should be packed in metal containers.

Ok even if was an ornament and not a laptop it was inadequately packaged. The Facebook group says it's a laptop and you never corrected anyone there, you responded to replies as if it was a laptop.

Ornaments still require a minimum of 5cm of packaging so your packaging of 3cm was 40% less packaging than it needed to be transported safely. Plus if the box was too small it mean the item was forced in there or too close to the sides which it specifically states it shouldn't be.

Either way you failed to meet the requirements so no matter how much care they did or didn't take with your item it was likely to get broken. They don't put the requirements up just for fun, they do it because that is the MINIMUM needed, if you had correctly or over packaged the item it would have arrived safely or you would have a case against them, you didn't so you have no case.

The Royal Mail guidelines must have changed recently then, as all correspondence from them to me says 3cm of packaging which there was, in fact more than 3cm in places. They said the box was too small by 1cm although there was still 3cm of packing. Makes no sense.

So its a blunt force trauma that leaves no mark on the packaging?
If I smack in the face using blunt force, are there any marks?
Could you be referring to shock damage coming through the packaging from say a drop?
Which comes right back to insufficient packaging....

As I have previously said, there was sufficient packing according to RM guidelines, so yes maybe it was dropped and had shock damage but surely if clearly marked FRAGILE HANDLE WITH CARE, it should be handled with care and not dropped. If I break something at home I take responsibility.

Ahh we are back to the force field again.
did you pay extra over packages not marked fragile?

    Im sure you dont.
    So many do.

You expect some different form of handling because your item is marked fragile.
You package an item to survive a busy mass production parcel system. Vehicle capacities are maximised and large volume containers are used.
In your mind,no doubt it gets placed in the back of a Transit and transported point to point
