Passed Medical but DVLA Failed me

Do you know the CDT test results from your medical, 2.2% to 2.9% will make them think, 3% and over and you will be refused.
If you had a raised CDT level for both medicals even within the mid range they may consider you are using alcohol inappropriately.
You can be fit as a butchers dog and still fail a CDT test.0 -
Also consider that a medical is the human equivalent of an MOT, and as such is only valid on the day that it was taken. You must therefore take a new medical to reapply for your licence.
Furthermore, in much the same way as an emissions test takes place on a car, for alcohol related problems a blood test will be required to measure CDT (as per @esmerobbo above). If you are worried about what your levels might be, then complete abstinence for a month should allow your levels to reduce to normal prior to a blood test.
If you're confident in passing, then re-apply, pay for the medical (as you won't be allowed to proceed otherwise), and - if you fail - request the full decision in writing from the DVLA.
But, much like you won't be able to insure a car without a valid MOT, you won't get your licence without a valid medical. And, the same as an MOT, you can't argue that passing one a number of years ago means your vehicle is roadworthy today.0 -
of course you can insure a car without a mot0
