Does it make that much difference to your life having to wait a minute or so?if you have to be somewhere in a hurry you should leave earlier

And the next set, and the next set. Inattention is a cause of traffic jams. If you can't see that 7 cars getting through, when 10 were meant to, multiplied up over lots of junctions, causes traffic, you probably shouldn't drive.
The max speed limit is just that, its a limit not a target

Sure, but if you do that with a big queue behind you, you're a bad driver. You're advised by the HC to pull over - this advice is for slow moving vehicles - 40 in a 60 *MIGHT* come under that description. Keeping up with the flow of traffic is a fundamental part of driving.

If I know the sequence of the lights I always glance at the one before to see when it changes red, ready to go.

However, why do you think that some councils put up longer tubes or shutters on sets of traffic lights to stop people seeing the previous lights change? Could it be in their eagerness, some drivers over anticipate and jump the lights because they see the previous set of lights go amber?

Do these same people notice when light sequences are changed?

Worse still is when they carry on at 40 in a 30 zone! It can take time to get past them on a 50/60 road when they're happily holding up the traffic only for them to catch you up whilst totally ignoring the 30 limits...... Maybe it's proper MSE driving to go everywhere at 40mph?
Funnily, i've been pondering a small Caddy sized van to facilitate a side project i'm going to work on. I havent seen much movement yet, but in theory markets like pickups and vans are likely to be hit by the upcoming downturn.
Would be interesting to hear if anyone has direct experience?

Why? So you can argue with them?

I've reached the point where I no longer bother going from lane 1 to 3/4 to overtake middle lane drivers, I just overtake on the inside.

Both are illegal, but after 25yrs of driving I've given up being the obedient one - no-one else obeys the rules of the road. And I'm sure middle-lane driving is getting worse.

A couple seconds of your time isn't going ruin your day. Chill.

Nearly as annoying as lane hogs who will crawl behind slower traffic then nail it when the lane becomes clear to only slavishly follow behind the next vehicle in 'their' lane.....grrrrr. It's as if any overtaking lane is a no go zone!

Do not Chill. Not whilst operating a motor vehicle! Pay attention! It's not seconds, it's minutes, because some people WON'T get through that green light, because some 'chilled' person in front of them is too slow.

And? They’ll get through the next one.

And that's the start of a queue forming, and not being cleared, at the lights. A couple of dozers next time round, and the queue gets longer.
Traffic junction management can be very complex, but this part isn't. Dozers cause queues.
