    Hi Saturday Savers,
Mad busy trying to sort out tenty stuff. Quite a few useful frugal things on the list today:
*Leftovers from last night's nice meal for dinner tonight - cook.once, eat twice...v useful when busy.
*Bake cake, biscuits & bread to take with us as much cheaper option than the lure of coffee shops. Sourdough proving, still to bake but cake & bics done & packed.
*Harvested everything ready in garden rather than waste it while away - 1 courgette, 2 bunches of grapes & 800g tomatoes.
*Make tomorrow's picnic. I am NOT spending £15 on lunch & drinks somewhere because we cba to make a packed lunch. Flask out ready as a reminder.
*Water veg & feed sweetcorn only - everything else winding down now.
*Get financial admin up to date. Need to check that the Green Flag policy purchase muddle is now sorted out inc destroying the surplus policy which was 'bought' when their website crashed.
Then I intend to have a lovely bubble bath & hair wash and try to finish my library book.
Happy Kitties - thanks for your good wishes. Mum has improved a very little but it's early days & she still has mountains to climb, so we still have fingers & toes crossed x
    Cheers all,
    F xx

    Hello :j
Sorry to hear that you are struggling with your health HK. Surgery sucks, but hopefully it will be worth it in the long run for you.
Welcome TriggerHappy, several of us on this thread are debt free too, but use the thread for motivaton to stay that way :D
Pleased to hear that your Mum is a bit better Foxgloves, hope she continues to improve.

Exhausted.com here - up mega-early as I couldn't sleep, then DD turned up with kids for lunch. Used HG spring onions, tomatoes, cucumber and radishes in lunchtime salad :)
Received a £5 shopping voucher from RM surveys in the post :)
Also the welcome news that the interest on our ISAs is rising due to the Bank of England rate rise - we save with a mutual, so they are passing on the rise in full :)

Went to a little local free festival for a couple of hours this afternoon, spent a very few pounds on fairground rides etc for GD, but not much as she is too little for the expensive type :D
Also did a shop at Mr S, hopefully enough for a few days. I always seem to be running out of something, despite making a list
Must note all spends on spreadsheet before I forget!
Picked French beans, raspberries and a few blueberries. Tomatoes seem to have almost stopped ripening now :(
Chopped up a windfall apple and froze in the bag with others

Watered whatever needed it in the back garden
Washed down path at bottom of garden where dog wees :o
Leftovers for dinner tonight - Thai chicken curry for OH and pesto pasta for me :)
Bit worried about my brother - he was laid off from his agency job yesterday :( He seems to have something else lined up for next week, but he had been working at that factory since March and had hoped to be taken on permanently. A company that relies on importing parts and exporting finished products is probably affected by the fall in the £ though - and it is a US company that is probably taking stock of whether it is worth remaining in the UK after next March too, I guess :(

Must get an early night tonight as I have agreed to help DD with a car boot sale in the morning

  • Morning all :hello: glad your mum has improved FG sending wishes for her continue to do so.
1LL thanks for the info on the shop, I'll have a look
HK hope you are feeling ok. Sorry you're struggling

Just enjoying a brew before I get on with my day which will look something like this:
    Reconcile just for points cc
    Check banks
Peg out washing from overnight, do a couple more loads to catch up and peg out
    Run
Pop to town, collect some new school plimsolls for dd, pop to frozen shop whilst there for some items that appear to be cheapest place to get them at the moment. Don't normally shop there but will give it a try
Have a voucher expiring for another shop today for a low spend, so might got there armed wth list to use that up
    Vacuum through
Make cake for week ahead and a crumble for pudding later
Do some tidying, we have removed a largish piece of furniture we were looking after for someone and the room needs rearranging a bit
Continue to watch a programme on Netfl1x tonight with DH
Packed lunches and stuff for school tomorrow
    Home pedicure
    Pick more tomatoes

    Enjoy your day folks, Purps.

    Morning all,
Yesterday was a spendy day (some planned/some not but all within the budget at least!)
Planned - we went out to the designer outlet place for me to get new sports bras (online/in town here they're £36 at the outlet place £20.50 so a decent saving.
Planned - went to the big swedish shop to look for inspiration for my kitchen & had a hot drink there (no food)
Unplanned - at the lovely swedish shop spent £175 on 9 doors (& 3 sets of fittings)to replace our current 6 doors on our besta cupboards in our sitting room. Our existing doors were black high gloss ones that we bought about 8rs ago but they've been moved around and damaged over the years and have been looking a bit scruffy. We've now gone for an oak colour which really will lighten up our room also means that adding the extra 3 doors means I gain extra storage where currently we have those as display shelves with picture frames on (read: dust magnets and place where dh comes and dumps anything he finds in his pockets on!) I can't wait to see them changed :) Will keep the doors we take off in the garage loft in case we find another use for them.

Today is going to be a day at home getting the house straight and getting the kids ready for school on Tuesday. I've got a hospital appointmen tomorrow and I don't know how long its going to take so need to make sure that everything is ready.

    Have a good day all.

  • Morning all :coffee:
Yesterday literally disappeared in a bit of a blur. I decided I was going to do everything on my list, including the minor injuries and school reunion. However I underestimated the time taken in minor injuries, the time to assemble the drawers and the time taken to get through the traffic after football. I literally didn't stop between 10am and midnight last night.
So I've woken up quite tired this morning and have another reasonably lengthy list today before school starts back tomorrow. Lots of little things today around the house, and my tutoring, which I desperately need this month as I'm already broke. I also need to do a tiny grocery shop for essentials so won't get a nsd today either.
Hope everyone is ok - thinking of you HK and Foxgloves - enjoy the break.
  • a bit scared to the pressure cooker!

I think I would be scared as well DNMS  Did it come with instructions, or could you google and find some online for that model? I had one years ago, and it was ok (a Prestige one I think it was). Ended up getting rid of it because I hardly used it. It does cook things quickly, but (probably me) I got fed up with things being boiled to bits. I prefer to use the SC to save fuel I think! You can use them for bottling I think, but for me that would be double :eek: Why not look over on the Old Style board to see if there is a thread on pressure cookers, or start one of your own?

Helped DD set up her car boot stall, and stayed to help till her OH turned up. They only made about £40, but she was more pleased to have got rid of the clutter - the unsold stuff is headed to the CS, nothing wrong with it, lots of decent kids' clothes etc, just so much on offer at the car boot. I bought GD the hamster cage they were looking for (her Mum's idea, not mine, I don't like the snappy little things ). That has now been disinfected and they are off to buy a hamster this afternoon :rotfl:

Wandered down to the local festival again as OH was hankering for lunch out (it has a foodie element). A bit annoying as I have loads of food here, but at least he paid :rotfl:

Cooking some YS pork for dinner, brother is coming over as he often does on Sundays. Plenty of HG veg to go with it!

I was scared of my parents & grandmothers pressure cooker as a child and so I've never used one!

Some more sorting out done before my folks came for lunch. Got rid of lots of empty gadget boxes that dh has always previously insisted on keeping plus 12 music magazines that he used to have a subscription (from 2013)
My old iPhone4s has been charged up and passed onto my mum (I was given dh's old mobile when his mother bought him a brand new phone for his birthday a couple of years ago)

Lunch from stores, was going to be spag bol but they were having pasta bake for their tea so did it with new potatoes instead.

Washed 2 loads on the quick 30 degree wash and hung out on the line as its nice here today

Sorted out with ds1 his school gym bag, we've added his name sticker and used tippex to write his form group on the inside and stuck a bit of sellotape over it, hopefully if it gets lost he'll then get it back.

Booked gym classes for Tuesday onwards as the kids will be back to school - need to get back to making the most of my monthly membership.

    Still need to
    * make dh's lunch for tomorrow
    * meal plan for tomorrow (something quick and easy as I don't know how late we'll be home)
    * bring washing in from the line and put everything away that doesn't need ironing.
then hoping to sit and relax as i'm feeling tired.
