    Morning all,

Ally, A week away sounds like a lovely plan.
CCL. my dh always struggles with the last days of his holidays as he works himself up about going back to work :( I'm not suprised you're annoyed with Sky, its carp that!
Dawn, I was just about to log in to nationwied, think I'll leave it til later!

Todays list isn't going to be long and I will add as I go as its nice weather, dh is working from home so my dads offered to take me and the kids to a local gardens as they're lifetime members and they get a few family passes so we can have free entry. May as well make the most of the weather and get the kids away from their tech for a while! bonus :D

    So far I have
    * Switched dss alarm clock off at the wall (microwaves/oven/tvs etc are all off at the sockets when not in use)
    * Sorted the boys wardrobes, taken out of ds1s the school uniform that no longer fits and moved it into storeage ready for ds2 next year.
    * Labelled all of their uniform in the hope that anything that does get lost gets found again to save us having to buy again!
    * Ys bread for breakfasts from the freezer
    * All ironing done that needed doing
    * A quick 30 degree wash is in now
    * Got ds1 to try on some jeans I'd bought in the next size up, they now fit so they're in his wardrobe along with a pair of school trousers I bought for £2 from a cs a couple of years ago, a waist coat that my dad had sent over for him to try last year - now fits (his old jeans have gone into storeage for ds2)

Quite a productive start to the morning I'd say!

    Have a good day all.

    Hi Friday Friends,
A few useful frugal bits & bobs today:
*Overnight laundry on cheap tariff. Free line drying outside.
*Picked more french beans & grapes.
*Used up several leftovers in my lunchtime salad bowl.
    *Paid in a cheque.
*Did quite a bit of cleaning using minimal products & washable cloths.
*Improved slow draining bathroom basin with hot soda crystal solution & sink plunger.
*Re-stocked medicines box with generic painkillers, anti-histamines, etc. Why anyone would buy branded standard paracetamol when exactly the same thing unbranded is available for 19p is beyond me!
*Discovered I fit back in my size 16 skinny jeans, so that feels like a 'new' addition to my wardrobe.
*Sorted lots of food/supplies from home to take away with us, rather than buy everything while we are there.
*Mend sock & sew on 2 buttons.
*All free leisure - knit, read library book, gifted magazine, etc.

  • Evening everyone :coffee:
Made it home, after even more spends by dd in Carlisle - but at least she has a winter coat now so I can stop fretting about that.
Just so happens I was wandering in Grapetree in Carlisle as well - looking at chocolate covered Almonds, which I resisted. They have a store pretty close to me at home as well.
I've unpacked, cleaned the house as much as I ever do, cuddled the cats to death and put a load of washing on.
Payday so I've just done September's budget, which looks awfully tight and it's not even September until tomorrow. But at least I know, and YNAB will keep me on the straight and narrow.

    Morning all :coffee:
We're heading off home today - need to check out by 11. I've already put away the clean dishes and emptied the cupboards. Need to pack clean vs dirty washing, and I definitely want one last dip in the hot tub before we go.
I've had a rotten night of sleep - think work is starting to play on my mind a bit, but I also had a bit of a fall out with Sky last night. Got an email about Sky Sports (which I couldn't get rid of when ex went as we were 'in contract' but I managed to get loads of other discounts). The email basically says that Sky Sports will no longer be available in SD in October, so I will have to have Sky Sports in HD and they will be charging me an extra £2 a month for the privilege. I rang them up to say I didn't want that and they have basically told me to suck it up and pay. I think that I should have the right to say no, as Sky aren't offering the service I'm contracted to any more. I think this is going to be long and drawn out over £2 a month, however I have not watched a single thing on Sky Sports since ex left. It's only still there because I can't get out of the contract....
Not sure what else today will bring, whether we're going straight home or stopping via anywhere else on the way. Both kids still sleeping so I'm going to have a cuppa and relax for a bit longer before I start.

CCL - Regarding the problem with SKY - try using the resolver tool on the MSE site. I have used it 3 times, with excellent results. KA

CCL, funnily enough I've ordered my usual nuts and seeds but added in chocolate covered brasil nuts to go in my nieces birthday gift next month and into her xmas box too as she loves them.

Lovely day out with the kids and my parents, they treated us to a drink and welsh cake too. Wouldn't let me pay for anything today.
Did pick up a couple of kids books (welsh language ones) that are suitable for the kids 50p each. Kids would rather I hadn't but  Once they've read then I'll pass them onto the school.

When we got home dh suggested tea out, instead of that we popped to iceland for a bag of oven chips :)

I've closed off my August cashbook and set up my September budget. Really got to work hard on bringing our food bill in cheaper. Its made quite a big difference the kids being on school holidays. Quite a bit more then I'd budgeted for. Now hopefully as dh is happier with me doing aldi (as he's been resisting switching from mr t's) I'll be able to rein it back in. Will plan the next few weeks being store cupboard/fridge/freezer weeks as much as possible.

  • Morning everyone, happy September!

My favourite time of year I love Sept/Oct

I have been reading along but haven't really had much to post. Health problems rumble on, getting better but it means without a doubt my surgery will have to go ahead which will knock me out of action for 4-6 months. Just have a lot to sort out beforehand.

Have been checking my banking every day.
Have also signed to the decluttering thread. Want to declutter at least one item a day and then I feel like I've been productive while out of action.
Dealt with some frogs, some still to do but it's amazing what you can do when bored and on bed rest!
Hope everyone is keeping okay. Thinking of you foxgloves sending hugs.

Have a great day everyone, hoping to wrap my third link to hope shoebox later-That's my aim for today and another one item declutter.

  • Hi, I'm pretty new to all this but...

I don't really have much in the way of debt anymore having completed a DMP a couple of years ago but I do still enjoy trying to live more frugally.

Today, I intend to spend nothing at all and use what I have.

I have food in the freezer, it's not hugely exciting but I'm going to try to change that ;)

I've also traded in 350 Nectar points to pay for a coffee from Cafe Nero, and have a free donut from Krispy Kreme to go collect...

After getting those, I'll have a lovely chilled day playing on the PS4 until about 5pm when I'll go and hit the gym (using my free 1 month pass I got through work hehe).

    Have a nice day everyone!
  • Morning all :coffee:
Only 2 days until work starts again. Usual dreads, but not as much as there were with the previous Head. I have a load of little jobs to do that are going to make me feel incredibly busy I think...
I need to hang a load of washing out and so another load, wash dishes, hoover. Go to the vet and pick up some special food and medicine for naughty tortie at the vet, drop ds at his dad's for the football, pick him up later and drop him at his friend's for a sleepover, put dd's drawers together (finally). And I have a couple of maybes as well - trying to decide whether to get my wrist checked over at minor injuries - 3 weeks since I fell on it and it's still very painful. Also, it's my school reunion tonight. I have been trying to psyche myself up to go but I'm not sure if I can do it - I have quite unpleasant memories of school so it will be a big deal if I do go.
So I don't suppose I should sit on my bum any more really - I'd better make a start.
