Is there a solution to the hideous Car Insurance problem in UK?

Dunno if i'm a dinosaur at 43, but I currently insure 3 cars:
- XC90 (group 39 / 7 seats, 185bhp) - £322
- V70R (group 43, 300bhp) - £300
- MR2 (group 27, 138bhp) - £181
All comprehensive with 1 named driver, and full no-claims on each policy I don't consider that too bad really.
The 7 seats on the XC90 seem to push it up a bit.0 -
Yet the UK insurance industry is reporting that 2018 is shaping-up to be its most profitable in twenty years - And profits have been rising steadily since the low-point back in the 1990s, when they refocused their attentions solely on to making money instead of providing a service to customers.
That statement is slightly misleading. Although there are individual exceptions, the industry as a whole has only made a profit from motor insurance once in the last 20 years, with 2018 looking to be the 2nd...All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.0 -
Yeah its true i hear fast cars like lambos ferraris cheaper to insure than a ford focus golf or fiesta because lambos ferraris are less involved in crash/stolen statistics because obviously they are less of them on the road.0

What's the point if you have already paid them a fortune during your whole life? They should refund you!0 -

I have noticed some newer cars being designed with side padding to reduce the risk of side impact damage (door dings etc)0 -
Hello,
UK car insurance is hideously expensive in UK. It costs almost a salary per year. Even if you are not causing any damage for years, it still goes up!
Is there a solution to that hideous extortional exploitation?
Is there a foreign company or any other solution? I don't want to give a single dim to these hideous companies.
PS: Please don't post here if you are 900 years old dinosaur who lives in a rural hole where you see other cars every 2 years and boast that you only pay £2.5 per annum or whatever. The problem is real for normal people of normal age and in normal areas.0 -
In South Africa third party insurance is included in the fuel price. I always thought that was a nice solution as the more you drive the more you pay. You never have to be worried about being hit by an uninsured driver and you don't have to worry about getting short term insurance.
What a cracking idea!0 -
Similar in New Zealand - car insurance seems to be an optional extra, but there is a state run compensation scheme.
I insured my first car 25 years ago and paid about £300 a year, this year I paid £200, and I'm still in my 40's living in the same English city. Insurers are happy to profiteer from people daft enough not to shop around and auto renew - they are being ripped off. The rest of us can spend a few hours each year shopping around and getting a fair price. Plus, the price you pay isn't the only factor in determining whether an insurance company is good or bad - wait until you need them to provide the service you pay for.0 -

Phil can I ask you to recommend some places to look for quotes? Are you just using the comparison sites or have you found some independent brokers that are competitive?
Elephant are trying to renew with us a crazy, crazy price for a 16 plate Nissan Quashqai. I'm leaving them anyway after the charges they asked for to change my car mid-policy,0
