Average ANNUAL premium is currently £648.10, according to the AA. Minimum wage is £1,187 per month for a 35-hour week.
I live in London, drive a Jaguar, and have a fault claim from 2 years ago. I still pay less than £500.
I pay about £400 for the astra with full no claims, and around £600 for the freelander (but that was a new policy taken out earlier this year when I bought it, so no NCD on that yet) So £1000 a year for both cars, and thats in Newcastle.0 -
"Normal person" reponding to thread. (As per OP's specification).
Love the hyperbole!
Age 55, live in centre of Dundee, do average amount of miles.
Pay £160-£180ish per year, hardly a "salary".
BTW if I was, old, lived rurally and didn't drive many miles in a week, I would still consider myself "normal".
Nice, illogical, predudiced rant though OP; feel better?0 -
I'm 40, live in a reasonable size city. I've even declared an at fault incident in a works vehicle in the past few years and still only paid £211 for my annual renewal this year.
Probably about 2 days salary.
No idea what the OP is being quoted if they think that 2.5k would be worth boasting about.0 -
One solution would be to pass a law that said insurance companies only have to pay out for a replacement unpainted plastic bumper if it is damaged.
These days all cars have painted bumpers, which kind of makes the bumper pointless since it's meant to absorb minor damage and be easily replaceable. But because they're all paint matched to the car, if someone scrapes your car it can be written off by the insurance company simply for want of a bumper.
In mainland europe, especially Paris, they have a more relaxed attitude to minor dinks. If we adopted that attitude insurance would come down.
If you want to drive a fancy car as a status symbol, then the painted bumpers should be covered only by your own insurance, other people's insurance shouldn't have to pay out.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -

So you're happy for others to bounce off your car when parking?
I can't see many having the same attitude.0 -

Hello,
UK car insurance is hideously expensive in UK. It costs almost a salary per year. Even if you are not causing any damage for years, it still goes up!
Is there a solution to that hideous extortional exploitation?
Is there a foreign company or any other solution? I don't want to give a single dim to these hideous companies.
PS: Please don't post here if you are 900 years old dinosaur who lives in a rural hole where you see other cars every 2 years and boast that you only pay £2.5 per annum or whatever. The problem is real for normal people of normal age and in normal areas.
We pay £280 and £480 a year respectively for fully comp insurance with protected no claims in a 2018 Cooper S and a 2016 A45 AMG respectively.
You must be in a high risk group and / or living in a high risk area.0 -

What moreoften happens though is the outer plastic bit absorbs the impact then flexes back in to shape. However the metal inner bumper and boot floor pan get deformed as they are part of the cars crumple zone.0 -
