    Hello,

UK car insurance is hideously expensive in UK. It costs almost a salary per year. Even if you are not causing any damage for years, it still goes up!

Is there a solution to that hideous extortional exploitation?

Is there a foreign company or any other solution? I don't want to give a single dim to these hideous companies.

PS: Please don't post here if you are 900 years old dinosaur who lives in a rural hole where you see other cars every 2 years and boast that you only pay £2.5 per annum or whatever. The problem is real for normal people of normal age and in normal areas.

You probably get charged a high premium because they can't understand a word you are going on about.

So you're happy for others to bounce off your car when parking?

I can't see many having the same attitude.
I'm indifferent about people nudging my car when parking because my car is old and very minor damage is irrelevant. I've always had older cars partially because I would be annoyed if the value of my investment was reduced because of minor damage. On a valuable car minor damage matters. It would be sensible if cars were more resistant to minor damage. How many cars are written off because of the cost of paintwork repairs?

As cars get larger door dinks will be more common but car owners resist anything to prevent them as the look of the car is more important. Most cars are scrapped after 12-14? years. Is it really worth being so precious about them?

In South Africa third party insurance is included in the fuel price. I always thought that was a nice solution as the more you drive the more you pay. You never have to be worried about being hit by an uninsured driver and you don't have to worry about getting short term insurance.

With respect, relatively few. The vast bulk get written off because of bodywork repairs.

Whilst its a nice idea in principle, if someone damages my P&J i'd kind of like it to be returned to the condition it was in before it was damaged?

    Call me old fashioned...

I guess those running around in a newer car have a different view.

Mine has been static for the past few years at around £180 a year, I insure two cars with one being a sports car for under £350 a year combined. Mine hasn't gone up for a while now. And no I'm not a dinosaur who lives in an area where we only see two cars a year but I am someone in my mid 40s who drives 2000 miles PER WEEK, have done over 2 decades points and accident free and live in one of the lowest crime areas in the UK.

I understand people getting annoyed at damage to their cars but designing cars to be more resilient would be sensible.

It would be but is there really an excuse for hitting something when parking?

Presumably the repaired bodywork will need painting.

I am happy to be a septuagenarian dinosaur living in Somerset paying £165.00 a year fully comp for my MX5. My other (new) car is sub £200.00 too. Live to a ripe old age, build up 53 years no claims bonus, and you'll be fine.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.
