And what exactly is a 'normal' age or area?

You really need to find a better paper round or a different job altogether.

The best solution to high insurance costs is not to pay it at all (you will soon be banned from driving for a while thus saving loads of money apart from the fines and increased premiums when you return)

Two cars in our household, our car insurance premiums this year were the lowest they've ever been, sub - £200. (Think about £170 Fabia and £185 Focus)

Driving for 6 years, full no claims.

I'm still in my 20s so hardly a dinosaur and we live in a town.

Make sure you check cashback sites like Quidco as insurance companies often offer generous rates, like £50 or more for a new policy.
    Mortgage remaining: £42,260 of £77,000 (2.59% til 03/18 - 2.09% til 03/23)

    Savings target June 18 - £22,281.99 / £25,000

It pays to shop around too. Companies love you to just let it roll each year.

5 minutes on a comparison site will often save a fair bit.
  • Insurance is all risk. The riskier you sit in their algorithms, the more you pay. Dont blame them, blame your peers who feature a similar profile as you.

Its calculated so insurers make a profit at every risk point. The market is highly competitive and if they could offer lower prices and maintain a profit, they would.

The largest factors are age, history, location and occupation. Improve these and your prices drop.

Don't those black boxes bring it down a lot?

A solution might be to have a box that limits the engine power and even limits the speed dependent on the road the car is driving on (I'm assuming the technology exists to do this in theory).

Strip away the chance of speeding/flooring it off the lights and a lot of the risk gets stripped away too.

Can the OP advise as to what car they drive around Basildon that makes their insurance so expensive.

    Are they a student?

How many miles do they wish to drive per year.
