((((hugs)))) Joannas Mum! They are part of your family aren't they! ((((hugs)))) for dd as well.
PP Love the chooks!
Took Penny the puppy around the field this morning and being quite wet over there and her a small dog she came home looking like a drowned rat so had to put the hairdryer on her! She is now sleeping it off.
I have just popped some chopped green peppers into the freezer ready to make chicken a la king. Just need some chicken! I am going to hunt around the kitchen for more stuff to stash away into the freezer for leaner times. Just been reading that article about food waste and am doubling my efforts!
2 hours until dentist appointment so must go eat something while i can - courgette and tomato bake leftovers I think, I left out the garlic out of consideration to the poor dentist!:D
Catowen - keeping my fingers crossed you have won the laptop!

hi all,
I haven't posted on this thread for ages and ages. I have been at work 5 days a week since jan, so have had no time to post
joannesmum, what a shock, hope you & dd are ok?
penpin---I love your chooks :j
smashing blouse---I always order from tesco online, i use the voucers to get 10 off a week. They do use loads of carriers, but I once asked for no bags and what a nightmare, the driver huffed and puffed about it and then it take you ages to carry through to the kitchen without the bags. I am all for green saving things, but not this way. I normally give the driver all my bags from the week before back, so recycle that way:p
I haven't been very well, I have brochitus and I am off work, yuk its horrid, I have caught up with all my jobs around the house. Kept stopping in between for rests!!
tea tonight: boiled pots, veg and fish
Does anyone know how to make a parsley sauce?? I know mrsm makes it, but I am not sure how you do it??

I have my shopping delivered without bags (as it's better to reduce than recycle) and my delivery drivers are angels :A Nothing is too much trouble, they're happy to wait while we unpack the boxes, and have even offered to leave the boxes and collect them next time :A
Parsley sauce - warm some milk, add slaked cornflour (cornflour mixed in a cup with a little milk, to a paste) warm and stir until thickened. Add chopped parsley and season to taste.

hi pen,
no I tryed it for 4 weeks on the trot and the drivers weren't happy, they just stood there and pulled faces, whilst I tried to get each item of food onto my hall floor, then the dog would try and eat the food!! If they had been helpfull and offered to leave those green boxes, I would off done it that way every week!!! sounds like your drivers are nicer than ours.
thank you for recipe for parsley sauce, I have never made it before, but it would be great for our fresh fish for tonight:T

Afternoon all.
First of all (((((((hugs))))))) to JOANNASMUM and DD. Thinking of you.
MRS MIX - so glad you will not have to wait too long for the op.
AMIE - I don't mind who you dream about but Colin Firth is spending most nights with me at the moment, so he's not available!
AUSSIE - Lamb Island looks wonderful - I didn't realise it was so small - you must know everyone there!
CHEERFULNESS - ((((hugs)))) to you and your DS; at least he knows what he doesn't want to do now - if he hadn't had a go, he may have always wondered about it. Don't beat yourself up about it - you sound like a wonderful caring mum. Hope things work out for him.
PENPEN - Hall of Fame is brilliant!
WELCOME to LIBERTY and FREETIME - it's a bit of a madhouse here but you will already know that if you've ben lurking for a while! This thread has some of the loveliest people in the world. I have taken a lot of comfort from them this last couple of weeks and it has been a real help.
CATZNINE - good luck with your new dentist. Well done for finding one!
PENPIN - your chickens are gorgeous and I love the names!
CHARLIESMUM - I have always had cats until we lost the last one five years ago. We found it so upsetting. The vet told us that cats have a long 'childhood' but a very short 'middle age', so it's not long before they become 'elderly'. If your 16 year old cat is only just starting to look thin, then she's doing well.
Well, managed to clean the house from top to bottom and changed the sheets (which are on the line - the weather is beautiful here at the moment). Walked up to the shops to post a 'thinking of you' card for my mum - she'll be feeling a bit fragile for a while after having to have her cat put to sleep. I'm just about to make a cuppa and will do a bit of knitting; DH has requested bacon & eggs for dinner, followed by cake and custard so that will be quite easy to do. We stuffed ourselves on a delicious stew with dumplings yesterday and haven't felt hungry since!
Well, kettle's boiling so see you all later.
KathyXX - hope you are all getting this sunshine!KNIT YOUR SQUARE TOTALS:

Just found this article on the bbc website.

I hope that this helps people realise what they're doing when they waste food.
I've not been on for a week or so - off to catch up on all your news.

Hello to everybody
Only just managed to get on here now for the first time today. Busy, busy day.
Hope you are all well and (((((((hugs))))))) to everybody who needs them.
My shank stew with dumplings - done in the SC yesterday - went down a storm. Honourable No.1 son came on a quick visit but decided to stay for tea as soon as he came in through the door!!!
I had taken about half of the stock out of the SC before adding the veggies so that has gone back in today with 3/4 kilo of carrots, a medium swede, a leek and a pack of dried onions (no fresh onion!), some herbs, stock cubes and black pepper. It smells delicious and I'm hoping that it tastes as good as it smells! Up to now, all my attempts at doing soup have gone rather awry - think I've been adding potatoes when I shouldn't have done. My Potato and Leek soup was definitely not very nice - though I made sure that it was eaten! When I re-read the recipe, it stated to use three or four leeks and one potato - think I did it the other way round.
Hope everybody else's attempts at OS are going well today - take care all and I'll try to get back in again later and see what you've all been up to.

Just got back from shopping at Safeway, bought our Xmas Day champagne
. This will be my first Xmas Day without my parents/family - I don't know whether I'm excited or sad.
Regarding that article Peem - it upsets me when people say things like 'the only skills young people have today are pulling off packaging and using the microwave', because I am only 20 and try my best to do home made meals, preserving etc. Any of our waste food (and usually its only eggshells, beg peeling etc) go into the compost, so we only really have half a black bag of rubbish a week - a lot of which is plastic, unrecyclable packaging from food e.g. chicken breastsWe must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret and disappointment0
