Tap water is environmentally friendly - not having being flown across the seas from some mountain range - not to mention grossly overpriced in a lot of restaurants. In fact there is a growing trend to order tap water in restaurants because of the environmental impact. Plus its free - we are on the moneysaving site after all http://money.uk.msn.com/guides/ethical-money/article.aspx?cp-documentid=58883980

Surely the waiter should notice the voucher isn't valid (if it's presented on invalid days) and tell the customer before they take payment and request the full amount...
On a busy night the waiters are not likely to read the small print and will not know the fine details of the scheme. This was proved for the person who only got the cheapest meal free.
The gratuity thing is automatic and I always feel embarassed presenting it but were not allowed to skip it as the company takes a proportion of it.0 -

First of all dining out should be considered as a special occassion , secondly its apparent that people who so often appear in said places with vouchers for a cheap meal , leave without tipping or showing any gratitude for the service they have received!!! Especially when considering the staff who have served them are on a minimum wage!!!! which probably still exists to supplement all the cheap people who seem to inhabit this world and think that people owe them something !!!!!!!! vouchers rule !!!!!!!! and so does tap water xxxxxxxx5 November 2007What's the deal?Printed in The Times everyday this week (until Friday 9 Nov 07) is a Pizza Express voucher offering 2for1 adult main meals, excluding Fridays and Saturdays, before 29 November.
A voucher with a differenceYou have to applaud this voucher; one of the reasons I gave it such prominence in the weekly e-mail is because, unusually it is the more expensive of the two dishes that is free, so if at least one person orders the cheapest item on the menu - a margherita pizza for £5.50 - you'll get both meals for that price. Thus two can dine for as little as £6.20 (£5.50 plus the 70p for The Times) in total, provided you order a tap water accompaniment. How to get your grubSimply buy the newspaper for 70p, fill in the voucher details section and visit your nearest branch between Sunday and Thursday, before 29 November. Chose which main adult meal you fancy from the menu then hand over the voucher when ordering.Ts & Cs1. Valid until 29 Nov for dining on any day between Sunday and Thursday
2. The voucher cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer
3. Offer excludes extra toppings
4. Not valid on take away orders
5. Photocopies of the voucher are not valid
6. One voucher per tableMartinPS. This deal was originally spotted by MoneySaver Beate below. Thanks for the top spot! This post has been inserted to provide a researched and more detailed explanation for MoneySavers coming from the weekly e-mail.
Maybe not the best way to say it, but well said. There is money saving and then there is being cheap. If you are going to go so far then why dont you just eat at home and enjoy your tap water there.0 -
Why would you care if another person chose to have tap water?
I often order a glass of wine and one of soda water (which is also free), and I don't really give a flying pig if anyone considers me CHEAP!0 -
I sometimes do 'mystery shopping',but have stopped doing Pizza Hut assignments.I can literally say 'you couldn't pay me to eat there!'
The quality is very poor for both salads and pizzas, they are usually understaffed and frequently unclean.0 -
This thread is about Pizza Express, which in my experience is much nicer than Pizza Hut, and has a much better choice of pizzas.
I have a voucher and will be going next week for a lovely meal with my boyfriend. I may even order tap water just to annoy people0 -

It would be very poor management if PizzaExpress rolled out that many vouchers and did not tell their staff the conditions. I was at PizzaExpress last Sunday at lunch time. It was incredibly busy, but the waiter had no problem deducting the most expensive meal off the bill without being prompted.Reclaimed thanks to this site:
£175 Abbey Mortgage Repayment Fee, £170.03 Capital One Bank Charges £418.07 Lloyds TSB Bank Charges, £2,671.55 Mis-sold Endowment Policy, all for OH0 -

Well I can only speak for my branch and we were not informed of the finer details of the voucher just that they exist. My original comment was aimed at people who were deliberetly going to try and misuse the voucher i.e wrong day, more than one per table etc
I was asking them to consider their actions as it basicly amounts to stealing from the person who serves them. There is no need to be objectional for the sake of it.0 -

Noone would care if you wanted water to drink and ordered tap water. People would only consider you "cheap" if you went out for a meal and ordered water not because you wanted it but because you didnt want to pay for another drink.
Waiters would only think of you as "cheap" if your received good service and had a nice meal and then didnt leave even a small gratuity.
I think some people dont realise that waiters live off tips and often receive less than minimum wage to account for them and find it funny or clever not to leave a tip.0 -
I worked as a waitress and never *expected* to get tips. If I did get one, it was a nice bonus but I didn't consider people "cheap" if they didn't give me anything. The minimum wage is there for a reason.
And if someone IS getting less than minimum wage, they need to shop their employer and not expect customers to make up the difference!0
