All I can say is anybody who takes an endorsement by a 'celebrity' as a reason to buy a product is a big fool.

In most cases the only interest and connection that tbe celebrity have with the product they 'endorse' is the cheque at the end.

As for the OP complaint, somebody in the RAC's publicity department needs to go back to college to learn thier job properly in copyright/endorsement law.

The more I see, the more I know.
The more I know, the more I see,
    How little I know.!! ;)

It seems to me that if I'd lost £17000 I'd use any lever I had to raise the profile of the situation. Is that so wrong?

    Yes you could be right.
  • I take it was a private sale. Caveat Emptor. I reckon Jack the Kad never invited you in for a cup of tea. Classic. Thanks.
I take it then as OP has not come back, my final answer sums up what happened!
Could be difficult. The celeb (Patrick Allen) died 12 years ago!
Well, I feel like making honey in a canoe after that! But then again, it was a few years ago!

My Insurance have cancelled my policy and charged me £166 for them doing so. This is after I called them six days after I bought the Evoque to tell them the vehicle I had was a clone. I was advised to do this by the Police and DVLA......... The Broker is One Call and the Insurer is One Insurance. They didnt want to know when I asked why they had charged me £166 or about the circumstances....... In fact they have sent me two cancellation notices. One is that they cant find my driving licence details and the other change of circumstance....... So I still have the stolen and cloned Evoque sat on my drive , with no insurance and £17k and climbing out of pocket............ I wonder if I will get the road tax back ??

  • Using a celebrity to endorse a product when the celebrity hasn't authorized any endorsement is a criminal offence. Martin Lewis has had the same problem .... ""The Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 (SI 2008/1277) is a statutory instrument in the United Kingdom made under the European Communities Act 1972. ... It is designed to implement the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive, as part of a common set of European minimum standards for consumer protection."" ................ lots of armchair experts on this forum with wrong or unhelpful advice .......... https://www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/regulation/consumer-protection-from-unfair-trading-regulations-2008
  • I never received any Terms and Conditions from the RAC and they were not available on the website .... Thats a breach of Consumer Contracts Regulation 2014 which replaced Distance Selling Regulations .....https://www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/regulation/consumer-contracts-regulations
  • The RAC failed to supply my Subject Access Request as laid down in the regulations. They even failed to supply full details ..... The ICO has confirmed that in their opinion the RAC failed to comply ..........
