MSE News: Energy firm Iresa ceases trading - here's what it means for customers

If I have cancelled my DD (have), how will they (Octopus), get my credit back to me ??
Yes, I did cancel DD as a mistake as well. I have just setup DD with Octopus to get a refund.
https://octopus.energy/dashboard/personal-info/
As Octopus clearly stated their intention to refund via DD, then I will follow their rule to save my time as well as their time. They have to deal with many ex Iresa customers, in addition to transferring out business to other suppliers. It would be better to follow their instruction ?0 -
All seems pretty correct with my final bill, they are a penny out by my manual calculations but expect that is a simple rounding error that I am not going to argue about.
Have accepted so £121.27 making its way to a credit with Octopus compared to the £121.28 I believe I am in credit.
My DD went out yesterday so that is another £60 payment to add to the above then obviosuly take off energy usage this month.
Will likely move when everything is finalised and quite tempted by Bulb as whilst not the cheapest a mate has given me a £50 credit link so can use that and then always move again should a price hike happen other option is a cheap fix with no exit fees as likely to be selling and buying a house so one less complication.0 -
Daughter received her e-mail this afternoon. Final bill slightly different from the final bill on the Iresa site in that they have dropped the part unit so 9p better off.
edit: final bill on Iresa site has been changed to match the one from Octopus.0 -
Mmmmm . looking at switching/comparing now. I am on Oct's "Flex June 2018 V1 rate
but it is not on the comp site I am looking at - Citizens Advice.
Wonder which I should pick as a 'nearest'
The Flexible Octopus is basically the same pricing as this Flexible Octopus June 2018 v1 so I have used that on MSE Cheap Energy club.
Decisions, decisions, decisions now, Eversmart is the cheapest for me but is a variable tarrif so could go up and limited feedback although I never had an issue with Iresa0 -
I was going to start switching to bulb later this week, but I read they may be raising their tariff in November.
I know we are free to move elsewhere, but something to be aware of
Yes, I saw that. They would still be cheaper than Octopus, and as you say I can always switch to a cheaper supplier - if there are any then of course0 -

The Eversmart tariff is fixed - have a look on their websiteNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
I'm sure everyone already knew this but it almost caught me out: the standing charges and unit price in communication from Octopus includes VAT, while the switching sites calculate it separately.
For me, the best I can do is about £30/year better than Octopus. Given I'd only just tidied up my April 2017 switch to Iresa when it ceased trading, it's not enough to take the risk on switching.0 -

Eversmart are cheapest for me too but I don't want a smart meter. Bulb are a little more expensive (and variable) but there's not a lot in it.
Then just decline their offer to fit one. It's a waste of time anyway until they are SMETS2 compliant. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
