Brexit the economy and house prices part 6

That phrase 'peoples vote'. What was the Referendum, an Aardvarks vote?
Democracy must have the ability to change it's mind or it's a dictatorship.
If you're so sure everyone wants to leave, a 2nd vote will confirm it and !!!! up all the remainers. It's win win, no?0 -

We don't do enough in the UK to justify launches, so we will only ever be a part of a larger project & moving goods and people across the borders could get a whole lot harder.
The UK plans four - yes you read it right, FOUR - spaceports in the UK with the first being operational within three years so you're very obviously wrong.

You don't do enough research before posting your anti-British bile to warrant the polite replies you get.0 -

It may as well have been if this is the kind of argument.
We had a referendum about whether we should remain in the EU or not.
The government then decided how we would leave.
Parliament then vote on the deal, which it currently looks like they'll reject which leaves us with no deal.
At that point the people would be asked to vote what they want to happen next, because our elected representatives were unable to come up with a reasonable solution.
Why? They already made the decision on 23rd June 2016; there is no need to ask again until after that decision has been fulfilled.
It sounds pretty democratic to me, giving people a vote on what they want to happen now that we have more information. Like when we vote for mps every four years. Things have changed, we have new information available etc.
For that read: "I didn't want to leave the EU and now we're close to a complete form of leaving I like it even less. Give me a chance to try and overturn a democratic vote."
I think we should go for no deal, because it's the only way we'll ever hear the last of it. The leave voters will be too busy figuring out how to survive to notice that immigration isn't decreasing.
Of course what you really mean is that you think we should go for a deal because you would do anything to retain ties to the EU, simple as. Thankfully what you think will make zero difference to the outcome.0 -

Says you, he says he voted to remain. Can you see why I would believe him and think you're just making it up? Even before the referendum he said he was in favour of remain.
...
I suspect few of us on here really know Corbyn.
I remember listening to Ken Clarke recently on the radio. He said that he had known Jeremy for the best part of 40 years, and that he was always cold on the EU.
I can understand why. The EU could easily block any nationalization plans, on competitive grounds. I don't think Jezzer wants his hands tied if his party were in power.0 -

Corbyn's long since lost control of any ability to get his MP's to do anything he wants,.
Mrs M isn't exactly having an easy time either0 -
Both parties are a mess. They've spent 2+ years trying to score points against each other and neither party has been able to produce a plan which makes any sense. Meanwhile, the rest of the world looks on, absolutely aghast at how rediculous our situation has become.
If there were to be another General Election - I wouldn't be able to vote.
If a second ref was declared - I would not vote out of principle. I'm in my 30's and lots of my friends feel this way too.
What annoys me the most about this whole business, is that many issues (homelessnes, poverty, social care etc) facing this country have been pushed aside - they should not have been and there's now a time bomb waiting to go off.0 -
What's wrong with them both being people's votes? What would you call the 2nd one?

Must I spell it out? 'Peoples Vote' is an emotionally charged phrase that implies that the Referendum wasn't one. I notice that in this thread it appears only rarely, showing the overall high standard of contributions here!
It makes a pretty clear distinction that the vote needs to comes from the people and not just Parliament though. I can't really think of a better term before "follow up" or "2nd" referendum. Can you?
Everything about Brexit is emotionally charged, that's why the country has spent 2.5 years arguing about it and getting nowhere.0
