Brexit the economy and house prices part 6

Indeed.
Of course if we stopped all immigration tomorrow, the issue of the burden of our aging population would become a bigger problem more quickly as well.
There are over 3 billion people on the globe living in poverty still.
That's 6 times the entire number of bodies in the whole EU.
Even the poorest income in the UK is a king's ransom to many of these people.
Technology will only increase the number of people available globally.0 -
Thing is, I don't see much evidence of this financial affluence being ploughed back into the local community. West Yorkshire has some of the most pathetic transport links around.
Surely, you can see the disconnect between country-level wealth, and that money going back into the regions?
If you want to solve that problem, vote for a government that cares about the people and remembers there's a country outside of London.0 -
I can, but the problem isn't the migrants, it's the government who aren't using the wealth properly. The studies show that migrants provide a net positive to the economy, so they are doing as much as they can (they don't get any more say in where their taxes go than we do).
...
...and by Cameron heading up the Leave campaign, some voters conflated the government position with the EU. It was a big mistake IMO, especially after half a dozen years of austerity.
I actually said on here that the EU should have had a voice in the Remain team. They were in a position to argue for the Union, but people felt it unrealistic.
I think we need a big big shift in the way we see a sustainable future. Brexit is a game changer; we will be forced into doing things differently.0 -
I think we should be forced into doing things differently, but will ultimately do everything pretty much the same. We've still got the same self serving, short sighted politicians in charge. I'm honestly not sure how anything is going to turn into change unless the outrage post-Brexit is bad enough.0

So do you want to try and counter the arguments, or are details like that beneath you?
Is it because you've been caught out again, ignoring the details as you perversely accuse others of?
Will you ignore this too?Merkel will not seek re-election as CDU party chair0 -

Nah it's just frustrating talking to brick walls.
Not at all, that's actually news. I'm genuinely curious as to what'll happen next.
I'm not sure if it counts as a successful prediction from the Brexiteers though, they were going to have to be correct (on this specific point) eventually.0 -

I politely suggest then that some remainers here heed what is posted instead of merely spewing forth fallacious comments
Like you at last do here for example:Not at all, that's actually news. I'm genuinely curious as to what'll happen next.I'm not sure if it counts as a successful prediction from the Brexiteers though, they were going to have to be correct (on this specific point) eventually.
:wall:
Just because a Brexiter posts a link doesn't mean it's a Brexiter's prediction you know.
Often such links are posted here purely to show remainers that there are other equally valid opinions and predictions to theirs.
Given the often distorted view of events which remainers insist upon publicising in this thread, that is hardly surprising.0 -
Joan_number_1 wrote: »(It's not really news BTW, I said as much in my earlier post but as usual you ignored it & suggested anti-Merkel "screeching". )
Your earlier link was framed as "will she go?" and the opening sentence is about how her downfall has been predicted for a while. Your 2nd is "a senior source says she won't stand for re-election". Maybe it's boy-who-cried-wolf syndrome, since the last, maybe half dozen claimed of "is this the end of Merkel?" have been a resounding "no". On this very thread.Just because a Brexiter posts a link doesn't mean it's a Brexiter's prediction you know.Often such links are posted here purely to show remainers that there are other equally valid opinions and predictions to theirs.Given the often distorted view of events which remainers insist upon publicising in this thread, that is hardly surprising.
You could say the same for the Leavers. The only difference is that the Remainers stance hasn't changed at all from the start, whilst a lot of Leavers change their stance entirely every time a "Project Fear" prediction happens, followed by absolute denial that they every said anything else, even when it's quoted back to them.
To be honest I don't think there's any way both sides here will meet in the middle, which is why May's "compromise so no-one is happy" deal is doomed to failure.0 -
The studies show that migrants provide a net positive to the economy, .
Floored studies that would never hope to capture the reality. No one working cash in hand and claiming benefits is going to participate in a survey with a semi-official looking person carrying a clip board.
On one hand you say we need immigrants to do all the low paid work, on the other that somehow they are paying lots of tax! 6 m immigrants signed-on to a GP's surgery in the last 10 years.
As I always ask, whay is your end-vision? Relentless immigration until...........Restless, somebody pour me a vino.0 -

No UK politician has an end-vision they are willing to share in this country.
Our media sneer at the likes of China and their autocratic style of government, but they have ambitious; long standing plans to make their economy the #1 in the world for generations.
Whilst we fret about the lack of turnip pickers, Chinese and other foreign students hoover up all the decent engineering courses like chemical engineering at Manchester.
They're not stupid. Just us.0
