Was Tony Benn a grubby Europhobe? Or did socialism-in-one-country make it hunky dory?
He saw the EU as a capitalist club. Do you think Mogg etc are motivated by the same principles?
  • Italy, on the other hand, has not seen growth as strong as Spain's for years and in the second quarter of 2018 expanded at an annual rate of just 1.1 percent. Tepid growth has been one of the main reasons why Italians voted in such large numbers for more populist parties in this year's election.

The worry in financial markets is that Italy's new coalition government could ramp up its anti-euro rhetoric if growth stumbles further, especially after the European Central Bank end its bond-buying stimulus program this year, as it has signaled it will do.

Daniel Harenberg, a senior economist at Oxford Economics, said Wednesday's survey highlights again that the business cycles in the eurozone are "not perfectly in sync," with Italy potentially more affected by a slowdown in export orders in Germany

Wishful thinking. Brexiteers would just love the EU to implode.

Labour trouncing the Tories in the polls today.

Mervin King excoriates Theresa Maybe's Brexit incompetence.

It's not looking good for Brexiteers.

Which of those news items, specifically, is bad for Brexiteers? A party led by a Brexiteer trouncing a party led by a Remainer? Or a darts player stating the obvious?

The actual answer is "carry on as normal" but you already knew that.

Thousands of people will be doing the exactly the same which is why there will be no grounding of flights, no travel ban for UK citizens, and transitional arrangements as needed.

So you don't expect there to be any teething problems on April 1st, for a business travel with goods that will need declared at customs?
I wish I could be so confident about that.

I still don't see how it effects the difficulty of negotiations.
Have you done much negotiation? It is much easier to do when you know exactly what you want and provide a united front.

The SNP white paper spells out exactly what they want and the party is behind it.
MY or whoever is negotiating is now doesn't know what they want and there's open revolt about it, so no hope of unity.

Tepid growth, unlike the UK's stellar performance of +0.2% in Q1 and +0.3% in Q2. ;)

No wonder that after 20 years of stagnation in Italy there's social unrest........ Took 294 billion Euro's to bail Greece out. Can the Eurozone afford to help Italy. One suspects not.

I believe the bail out fund owes the UK about £22 billion. I very much doubt they could find the money to bail out Italy, or Portugal.
