20 mph speed limits.
Hoping the proposed blanket 20 mph speed limits in London will spread out.
The radio programmes today were jammed with fuming fulminating objecting drivers.
Stuff cyclists, pedestrians & children they said.
Get out of my way, I'm in my car.
All callers were male!!
So lets have only female thoughts on this. No male car bores please.
Bet there aren't many (if at all).

Funnily, i've been pondering a small Caddy sized van to facilitate a side project i'm going to work on. I havent seen much movement yet, but in theory markets like pickups and vans are likely to be hit by the upcoming downturn.
Would be interesting to hear if anyone has direct experience?
Why? So you can argue with them?0

I'm female. Not a car bore, my car is a tool to get me from A to B and that's it.
Can't comment on London as I don't drive there however I don't mind 20 mph speed limits in certain areas for specific reasons - around schools etc. I would object to a blanket 20mph limit because it does my head in to drive that slowly for any length of time. I've successfully managed to drive at 30 mph around town for many years without driving into any cyclists, pedestrians or children so really don't see what the issue is. And as a regular pedestrian (I never drive shorter distances) I'm of the same opinion. 30mph is fine. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Sorry Male and a car bore here...
Im guessing you don't drive in London. They claim it saved 4 lives a year in Bristol. This article in the Guardian appears to show that 20mph zones had the opposite effect.
Dropping the speed to 20 could increase pollution also. In my car 20mph in 1st = revving the engine, or 2nd gear where it pulls itself along at more than 20mph with no throttle input. So break the limit in 2nd gear or kill everyone with exhaust fumes in 1st gear.
One article said saving those 4 lives in bristol will save £15 million. How? And i wonder how much it costs to implement?
EDIT.. Think i found it over £800,000Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Had them here in Brighton for a while. Everyone drives at 30mph purely as a two finger stick up to the bonkers Green council (since voted out never to return) that introduced them and also did so much more damage to this once fine city with cycle lanes that cost £m's with no cyclists using them. The loss making eyesore 360. The lowest recycling rates for any U.K. council, rubbish collections not being made with the city stinking, dossers and junkies in every doorway. Good idea by schools though and should be enforced with Gatsos.0

There are many more cities than London with large areas of 20's Plenty speed limits. I'm female though do drive an Audi so may not count. In many of the streets it's impossible to get over 20 anyway due to high volume of traffic and I don't mind going slower in housing areas, but I do object to speed bumps. I thoroughly hate them.0

Female car bore here.
It's been 20mph round a lot of Edinburgh for a while now. Some people stick to it, others dont.
I am not bothered what speed limit they put in, I can still get to where I am going, it may just take a few minutes longer. If it helps save lives and causes less injuries (by that I mean not as serious as it would be at 30mph) it's a good thing.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.0 -
There are 20mph roads round Manchester. People tend to stick to them if there are obviously children around, they get ignored by many at other times.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

The reason that the 30mph speed limit is too high is because people ignore the 30mph limit too.
But with a 20mph limit, at least most drivers stay below 30mph. With a 20mph limit, any dangerous driving can be easily prosecuted.0 -
I'm occasionally female, on Saturday nights with my closest friends I become Norma.
20 limits are only needed because the 30 limits are being ignored often by a large margin. If drivers were more responsible / less ignorant 20 limits wouldn't be needed.0 -
I'm female with a lot of 20 mph roads in my city. I rarely stick to the 20 because it is agonisingly slow and has been put on roads which seem inappropriate for such a limit.
However I do stick to about 25 on those roads and that seems to be common for most of the drivers I see. That's obviously a good thing for some residential roads, so in that respect I support the 20 limit (sort of).
I should add that I stick to all other speed limits, but 20 is so hard to drive at and feels "wrong".
Edit - I was trying to say what others have said better. If it brings speeds down to below 30 mph then it has it's uses.0 -
