Crown Currency Exchange and Travel Money Services are currently offering rates up to $1.62 depending on when you need the cash (around April 2009 for the best rates).

I've used them before and they are fine.

Rate is up to 1.53 with money at 1.45. But the high street is always naff.

today's rates wont be reflected untill tomorrow. Have you checked the travel money maximiser tool? I got 1.50 with that a few hours ago.

My advice would be that its going to peak at any day and be ready to buy as soon as you see it fall back down again! ive transferred my money today so im ready to go.

  • will the interest rate cuts in america expected not help make the dollar weaker so the pound gets stronger or does it not work like that?

yes indeed ! They are the reason the exchange rate is jumping at the moment (its jumping on speculation) so when the cuts do take place it wont cause the exchange rate to change THAT much.

Not sure if they accept credit cards, but I wouldn't recommend using one as it would be treated as a cash advance and incur high interest charges.

The usualy method of payment for CCE is a cheque or bank transfer. I've used both and they were fine.
