With a week to go till the big day me and the mrs decided to take the plunge today and start getting a few quotes for $$$. Majority of places are trading at ~1.46 so i decided to be clever and tell the lady i've been quoted 1.52 elsewhere.
So she casually replied...well i will beat that quote by a cent  so as a result just got mine today @ 1.53 ....£5000 = $7650. :money:

Im very happy, as since the drop it has alays been lingering around the mid one forties. If it helps anyone ask your local travel agents to price match against The Co-Op Travel in Shirley Birmingham (thats where i bought mine) ..... Seven days and counting!! :p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p

The rate per XE wasn't even 1.53 - You're full of it mate.

If you got £5k at 1.53 when the rate was ($7650) Then the TA essentially gave you out of the goodness of her heart $200.
That i find impossible to believe and if it were true the whole of the country would be decending on her agency.

Not only that by who the hell takes $7k+ in cash on holiday with them......?

Is your name Billy Shitter. ?

Any good advice is welcomed - but come on mate. Its like me going to my local garage and saying i know petrol is 85.9 but the garage down the road is doing it for 20p and the woman saying "go on, ill do it for 5p then"

Doesn't happen mate. It especially doesn't happen with foreign currency and especially when banks etc are in the mess they are.

When you got time from giving stupid comments/examples go to the Yell.com get the number and ask them a guy walked in on Saturday and exchanged 5k in two batches and what rate did u give him. then come back on here and apologise, i aint on here to cause no friction but just let people know how i got on.
  • After reading your post I tried to get a price match at Thomas Global Exchange - they were advertising $1.47. They wouldn't but we had an enjoyable bit of banter, although they said no way could they go to $1.53. They did give me $1.475 which I suppose is better than nothing!!

Ill call them. What's the number?

And, since im going to the US next week, if they will give a rate 0.7 above the global exchange rate i will bung you $50 for your troubles.
  • The best I'm getting today is 1.439. This is in the Brighton area. Can anyone get past 1.5 on this? I'm not travelling until Jan but would like to see what's best... maybe if I order in advance?
