  • I think that the BOE will drop the rate on thursday. Will that be good for the pound??? I dont think so. Just my opinion though.

If the BOE drop the interest rate then I think the $$ rate will go down rather than up.

I doubt a drop would even register. The expect drop will already be factored into the price now.

If the interest rate goes down which everyone expects (and most analysts predict a drop of 1%) the pound will fall against the dollar although I dont expect by much as it will already be built in due to the expectation.

I am off to Las Vegas on the 10/12/08. I've watched the $$$ go up and down like a yo-yo recently. Currently sitting around the $1.43 mark. Do you think the Bank of England will lower the base rate before i go therefore might ????? be a small surge in the strength of the £ and to hold off or bite the bullet and just get my bucks just now ????

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you .

Traditionally a low interest rate turns people off investing in a currency due to the low return as a result. This usually leads to a decrease in the value of a currency when it comes to exchanging ( this is offen the desired effect as it increases demand for our exports which eventually causes the pound to gain in strength again) however the market is likely to have already factored this into account with such obvious speculation.

So in summary: The pound could go crashing down further, it could go shooting back up due to bad new in the US or (most likely in my oppinion) it could hover around the 1.50 mark for some time.
    Merry Christmas MSE!

Hi there, as suggested by this website I've got a Nationwide Credit Card since they charge 0% on spending abroad.

I remember seeing a website which gives the rate on that credit card (I think it was the Visa website?) so does anyone have it? It would be appreciated!
