I have always bought $ travellers cheques and used them to pay in shops/restaurants etc just like cash.
I have read that some shops have stopped accepting them but I have not experienced this personally.
I've never paid a fee either to buy or spend them. not sure you pay an actual fee to buy them, but they wont be at a very good rate at all
its free to spend them once you are there
why not sign up for a nationwide card and get the true rate0 -
the rate would be the same as if you were buying actual dollars0

Pre paid cards are a bit of a sham really you can get charged for withdrawing the money and also you can be charged for transactionsso check that first. If you look at a site called www.travelmoneyservices.co.uk they are offering fantastic rates on the dollar. But get in quick looking at the site today the dollar has dropped by 3 cents today alone
