I'm just debating how to order my currency for NY. It's actually my son going and I was going to order travellers cheques but it seems you have to pay an extra fee when you purchase them and then when you exchange them at the bank ? Also hes 17 so I don't know if he could use a prepaid card :-s

I have always bought $ travellers cheques and used them to pay in shops/restaurants etc just like cash.
I have read that some shops have stopped accepting them but I have not experienced this personally.
I've never paid a fee either to buy or spend them. (I usually buy from either my bank, M&S or Tesco.)

not sure you pay an actual fee to buy them, but they wont be at a very good rate at all

its free to spend them once you are there

why not sign up for a nationwide card and get the true rate

doesnt look too bad , although its been creeping up the last week so maybe hold on if you dare?

you'd get 1.54 today if you used a nationwide card over there

Pre paid cards are a bit of a sham really you can get charged for withdrawing the money and also you can be charged for transactions:confused: so check that first. If you look at a site called www.travelmoneyservices.co.uk they are offering fantastic rates on the dollar. But get in quick looking at the site today the dollar has dropped by 3 cents today alone ;)
