US ($) Currency Thread 1 (closed - use thread 2)

I am planning a holiday in the US next year, and have heard the dollar may firm up against the £. I'd like to buy maybe £2-3k of dollars now and hold them to next year as a way of offsetting any currency movement (yes I know it could go the other way too!). I'd also like to have the dollars invested for the next year so I don't lose out on the normal interest I'd get on the money. Anyone got any ideas of the best way to do this?0

If I could predict movements on the markets, I'd be a millionaire right now instead of wasting lots of time getting the best deals on MSE.com
No, just kidding. Even if I were a millionaire' I'd still spend a lot of time on this great website. Anyway I hope you get a good rate when you buy your $.
Welcome to MSE by the way.0 -

Going to Florida next May and have a bit of a dilemma:
The Dollar has risen against the £ recently. I have a Nationwide account and would be using their debit card to draw $ out there.
Seems that my Options are:
A. Take current exchange £2500 @ 1.84 (lose 10 months interest @ 5.6%)
or
B. Hold on keep money in the bank earn interest at 5.6% + hope £ rises again or the $ at least stablises.
Would be interesting to see what others would do??
£ has risen slightly today.
