Ive just seen your Christmas budget IA and I think youre very sensible limiting the spending for Kaitlyn to £30. When they are that young they do not know the difference and they are just as happy with the box or the paper. A lot of people make the mistake of spending large amounts on babies but it is better to invest it for later on when they start asking for everything.
That's exactly our reasoning. The girls have got millions of toys and k's got access to everything Ash has anyway including toys and tonnes of clothes so she doesn't really 'need' anything so the xmas budget for her is mainly for us so we won't feel like we're leaving her out! lol. Whereas Ash will be more apprectiative of presents hence the bigger budget.

    I'm back. Stuff it. lol.

How is everyone dealing with december birthdays?? Why do people have to go and be born around christmas! lol

My eldest was conceived at Christmas time but I don't have any December birthdays to contend with thank goodness - or else the wheels would well and truly come off my wagon. :D

In fact I think December is the only month that I don't have any Birthdays in.

Oooh wash my mouth out with soap! My grandmother will be 93 on Boxing day. But she's the only one

(apart from baby Jesus of course, :D but we don't usually buy him anything.)

:rotfl: Yeah. :rotfl: Blimey. Your list is plenty long enough as it is without adding every Tom !!!!!! or deity! :D

I'm on a percentages kick at the moment and I think I'm going to work out what percentage of the budget I want to spend on each person and stick to that.

I'm pretty sure that my nephew on Hubbys side won't end up with 20% of the total budget this way. :D

Yes Ashli is that age now when Christmas becomes really exciting for you because the biggest kick you get will be out of seeing her face and her excitement over the whole Christmas thing. You are lucky youve got all that to look forward to.

I'm actually looking forward to Christmas this year. Normally I would just spent and not think about how much till after Christmas, this year I'm budgeting EVERYTHING and using my own money not credit for once. Shocking how much extra money I have left over every month since joining this site.

Budgeted £200 for family & friends & £150 for the OH.

    Its working out brilliantly..!!

I was looking into the idea of doing hamper baskets for some of my family, but after doing the sums I've come to the decision it wil probably work out more!! All the things i've looked at to go in the hamper cost £5+ each, so 5/6 items will cost more than I was planning!!!
  • Don't really have a budget as such..... it was agreed-ish that we aren't gonna buy big prezzies this year, and we'll all contribute to the cost of Xmas day..... have bought some small prezzies already tho.

Started to put some money by each month (only started in Aug tho, so not much in the pot, and most is gone already!) but next year I am going to be organised (prezzies/cards/wrap in the sales etc) and save every month.

As for b'days, only my Dad's in Dec, then the next one isn't til Feb (I think!?!)

When I looked at ur budget IA, I thought £100 seemed a lot to spend on Ash.... then I looked at Toys R Us for something, and realised how expensive everything is!!!! And like u said, everything will get double the use....
DS has had a total of about £20 spent on him this year (first Xmas, and I'll start as I mean to go on). I've told all the Grandparents not to buy lots of gifts for him, but if they want to put money into his savings acc, they can do that instead.... TBH I think he's gonna be more interested in the lights and the paper than anything else!

  • We're having the month off overpaying any debts, just minimum payments only this year. That free's up more than enough to spend what we usually do (it is an eyewatering amount, but we never treat the kids, so it's only fair).

In my family there are 2 birthdays in December, 2 in January and 2 in February! I build the birthday pressies into the Christmas budget. My £2 coins are covering the first £150 and in total it will be no more than £200. That's 14 for Christmas (including 6 kiddies) and 4 of the birthdays are the kiddies too. That's no more than £10 per person per pressie. Food and drink costs will be minimal (or no more than a normal week) as I'm going to going to relatives for the day. As for cards, wrappping and decs - I'll be using up stuff that's been stored in my box in the loft so the outlay will be virtually nil. I pobably only post about 10 cards. The rest get delivered by hand.

That made me chuckle. I think the biggest challenge would be trying to find Kali something :rotfl:

Back on topic our budget is around £200. Most of the presents have already been bought or made so it is only DS and parents to buy for. We have £50 saved up on Nectar points to spend on treats from Sainsburys and we don't buy each other a present. Instead we are going to buy ourselves a decent digital camera in the sales with Boots vouchers saved up over the year. I love MSE!
