How much for christmas?

  • RE Christmas birthdays I tried really hard, I mean really really hard to fall pregnant so baby would be born at a different time of year, especially as DD and stepdad have December birthdays and Mum, sister and nephew have January birthdays. After early two years trying and two miscarriages, newest baby is due...you guessed it...January!

Then we have a lull before OH, DS and I myself al have birthdays in June / July along with our wedding anniversary. I guess timing isn't our strong point.

Talking of conceived at Christmas babies, I taught two children (sister and brother) whose birthdays were 26th and 27th September. I always thought their parents must have great Christmases!

    :)

I'm not sure about budgets really - I buy throughout the year, but try to stick to aout £20 per adult but that will go up a lot anyway for others. I've been using points, vouchers etc to ensure that I don't spend that much really. I will probably spend about £150 'actual' cash - but more from ebaying selling (and then using that money to spend on ebay!) and survey shopping. With regards to the kids - Will is getting a Postman pat van and bit that I got for £12.99. That's all - he doesn't know! Stockingwise I'm getting socks, vests, PJs from Primark/sales - he needs these and I can use the clothing budget for it :)

OH I'm spending about £20 on a shaving hamper. Will make homemade stuff from the kids for him and my mum. He can sort his mum.

My bday is on the 29th dec - my daughter's is on the 28th! Best friend's little girl is on the 24th and M-i-l is on the 6th Jan. Ah well. Have also put £30 aside for sale items in January - those cheap rolls of wrapping paper & presents. I have to have a budget for that otherwise I'd spend all my wage! :D

I've used the finished hampers thread and slashed the price of a lot of gifts, and also helped to make the gifts more meaningful - I'm not going to buy rubbish pressies anymore - I'd rather give one of the gift vouchers I get from a survey site than trash I grab at the last min.

A lot of debt came from buying more than I could afford, both for myself and mainly for others so I have to be careful at birthdays and Christmas - but I think I've worked it out that it won't cripple me! :)

do they charge for use of the microwave to heat it up though

:) No....there is usually about 7 adults. Reason why they are so rich I guess! I'd much rather be in debt as I am than like certain members of the family, but others are kind and generous so can't complain too much! I guess you can't choose your inlaws....

Too true.... if women picked their partners based on the potential out-laws, there would be a lot of single men out there!
