I agree that the OP got installed exactly what they wanted, and I did not say otherwise. The customer is never wrong, you did the correct thing. However if a member of your family asked for this (and you liked them), I suspect you probably would have cursed them, not gone down this route, but installed Win 10 and done the right thing. :)

    You suspect wrongly.....

As they say "It's no skin off my back". I've never used Windows 8 or any of it's iterations. So I have no opinion about it at all. As long as it is safe to use, then I have no issue will helping the OP to install it.
All this talk of Windows 10 is quite tedious. I'm using Windows 7 right now. I haven't turned my Windows 10 Pro PC on for more than a year.
So if the OP is happy with what she is using, I don't understand why some feel the need to go on and on about it.
  • Re Post # 70, Everywhere. Yes it is remarkabe, totally remarkable, what difference.

The 2020 dual boot prospect is, for me, quite mind boggling. By 2020 my technical skills should have improved further.

    Thanks again.

Because this is an open, techie forum and as such it's perfectly normal for others to share their opinions and experiences. It may be of no interest to the OP now or even in the future but that doesn't mean it's of no relevance for anyone else reading this thread. Please stop treating these threads as your own, they're not.

Actually you are wrong. The thread was specifically for the OP and myself. I initiated the whole process from start to finish.
The fact that you and others decided to interject with often irritating, irrelevant and erroneous 'advice' against my wishes, because it is an "open, techie forum" just speaks to ill manners.
Of course everyone is allowed to post on any thread. But you were asked specifically not to do so, as both the OP and myself had a specific agenda.
The OP is too polite and wasn't knowledgeable enough at the time to simply reject the 'advice' and
So when some unthinking character wrote that she was doing it all wrong and that she should have just cloned the drive and other nonsense, it just made the OP more nervous, being a novice in the first place.
All you(the interjectors) achieved was to confuse the OP and irritate me.
The fact that you still don't get that the thread was specifically for me to guide the OP, tells me enough.
Techies? Don't make me laugh. They just ruined the threads. Instead of a comprehensive guide, it turned into a Trollfest for battered egos.
Only through the dedication of the OP and myself did the job get done. One or two people were genuinely helpful in assisting the OP towards her goal. The rest were just an irritation.
Don't keep insisting on joining the latter. Do you think anyone else consulting this thread for guidance needs to read this extraneous nonsense?
I'm not interested in your opinion. The thread was meant to be a guide/tutorial, not a place for useless opinions.
Please don't bother to reply because I am genuinely not interested in your opinion. The OP has completed her task, but if you have some advice for her going forwards, you are welcome to let her know.

Quoted for posterity. This has to be one of the most opinionated, self-indulgent posts I've ever read in my entire time on MSE, and that's saying something. You really need to get over yourself. "This thread was for the OP and myself", "I initiated the whole process", are you for real! :rotfl::rotfl:

Yes. I initiated it from start to finish.

I sense another battered ego unable to admit they were wrong...

There's a key word that stands out in those posts, it's the word "we", as in we will help, advise etc. The only ego, battered or otherwise, on display over the last few threads has been yours.

Anyway, I'm going to bow out of this now as I no longer want to indulge you any further.

.....unable to admit they were wrong...

    As I expected.
So it is now clear to you that I initiated it from start to finish.
But instead of admitting that you got that wrong, you try to nitpick that I wrote 'we' a month ago on a completely different thread.
A month ago, on a completely different thread, I wrote "we".
On this thread, I asked to not be disturbed. But no one could respect that.
People much like yourself feel compelled to express their freedom to post off-topic nonsense, regardless of whether it helps the OP or not.

At my previous (large) place of work there was a person we nicknamed Smuggins, who knew everything and was always right about everything. He scorned the ideas of other people, and put them down whenever he could. We imagined that he would be promoted to the auspicious job of "Head of Carpets". I don't know what happened to him after I left.

    I don't suppose...?
    Surely not!
As I witness the usual suspect unable to help themselves, I begin to share your view.

Of course you would. You were one of those who couldn't help giving useless advice when asked not to do so. Almost ruining the thread in the process.
