Sounds tasty. Reading your list - makes me want to go and add some items to my shopping coming on Monday. Want to make soup again.

I'm sneaking online quickly whilst working as I can hear DH downstairs in the kitchen and I *think* he is cooking. I think he's actually used his initiative, chosen something off the meal plan and started cooking, rather than waiting for me to finish work and ask 'what's for tea?'. There is a first time for everything :)

That's great news if it's true, but in this house *singing* "There may be trouble ahead"
I think I saw you in an ice cream parlour
Drinking milk shakes, cold and long
Smiling and waving and looking so fine

He actually did. DH made a pasta bake & we were finished early enough to go for a walk. DC3 loved walking in the dark with a torch, but was using it more like a sparkler, waving it around in the air, rather than to actually see where he was going.

Your DC3 sounds cute... Well done to your DH. First time for everything. Perhaps give him a cooking night. I did that once - gave DH certain days of the week to cook - perhaps I should reinstate that along with a menu plan.

  • To be fair to DH, he does occasionally cook, but only if I ask him to and tell him what to cook. I find planning meals mentally draining so for him to take the initiative and choose what to cook was a big deal. That might be a good idea though to give him a cooking night or two.

I forgot to mention that when we went for a walk yesterday I found £5.02 in my coat pocket. I can't for the life of me remember where it came from and I've not worn that coat in ages, so a nice little surprise.

@savingholmes yep DC3 is very cute, and he knows how to use it to his advantage.

Lovely to find money. Children can be cute... or horrid... depends on the little curl....
Just have to remember we were them once...

  • We're still plodding on. It's my payday today so most bills will go out tomorrow. I'm annoyed my overtime hasn't been paid this month - I made sure to submit it days before the deadline, but it's just typical of my line manager.

Business is going ok, orders are coming in, and a few local businesses have shown an interest in stocking some of our items. It's been a bit less hectic this last fortnight, so that's given us an opportunity to figure out the basics of our new laser machine, and even sit with my feet up for a few hours on my day off. The laser is more DHs 'thing' than the other more fiddly items we were making, so I'm hoping this side of the business will take off and he can take on more responsibility with it.

Glad your business venture is going well. Always good to have more than 'one client' ie not be totally reliant on day job...

  • Doesn't everything seem so much better when the sun is shining?! Managed to get out of the house for a little walk today. The daffodils are blooming, which always cheers me up.

Business is still going well. We've had an initial order (10 items) from a new business in the area, so hoping that may lead to repeat orders if they're happy with our work. I'm getting slightly frustrated with HMRC though. Trying to register DH as self-employed so that we can claim the childcare offer, but the website sends him round in circles. He registered and was expecting something in the post within 10 days. It didn't turn up. Tried logging on again & it told him to log into an old account. Tried that and it doesn't recognise his details. Tried the online help button & it puts him in a queue that times out before he gets to chat to anyone! aaarrrggghhh!!!!!

I was offered overtime this weekend and managed to do 4 hours (which will be paid at time and a half). I was hoping to do more this evening, but DC3 fell asleep on me after our walk and a heavy dinner. I can't remember the last time he slept curled up on me, and he probably won't do it many more times. So I made the decision that there's more to life than work and snuggled up to him.

I've heard on the grapevine that I may be offered a temporary increase in my work hours (maternity cover). Had a chat with DH and whilst the extra pay would be useful, I don't really want to give up my mid-week day off. So, I've pre-empted it and sent an email asking if there's extra hours available, and offering to work 4 long days, rather than 5 days a week. If I'm going to do it, I'd like it to be on my terms :)
