Such a lovely day. The kids have played outside on the decking whilst DH and I have supervised from the sun loungers
DD wanted her nails painted so of course DS did as well, they both have blue nails now
DH on dinner duty - lamb steak, green veg and oven chips (ran out of spuds and CBA going to the shops for more). It has been a No Spend Weekend which is unheard of in this house, especially school holidays weekends! Wondering about taking a set amount of fun spends out of the bank for the hols, we are at the seaside for four days so will need money for funfair, penny machines etc. I am thinking £80 for the whole holidays, might be a challenge but I shall give it a go!
How much do others with youngsters budget for the hols? XxMFW

Pride done; my stall (NASUWT) was next to the USA style car hire firm's stall and that's DS's company...so I met the (his) area manager; found out he (son) is relocating to our town and scrounged from their freebies without shame...I have a notebook, pen, rainbow band, post-it notes and more plus other freebies scrounged from other stalls. And I am feeling very lucky - left the car window down. I still own a Sat Nav and CDs.
But I've never been to a Pride before. It's a lot to take in...I did enjoy it though but next year I shall take a camping chair and a flask and a picnic.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

atb when my boys were little and we were going out for the day I sometimes set a budget and put it in a separate purse then put them in complete control. We could do anything they wanted, amusements, crazy golf, icecream, chips etc - but on the understanding that once the money was gone it was gone. If this is likely to result in huge squabbles then you can divide it into two and give them each their own budget - a bit more complicated but still workable.
You have to be prepared to go with the flow - I can remember asking them if I could have a cup of tea out of the budget but my two loved it. I can remember walking along the seafront with them earnestly discussing where we might find somewhere to spend the last 12p.
DS1 finishes his apprenticeship next week and doesnt start college until October. The college placement will be physically demanding and he really needs a rest before he starts. We have said that we will give him a basic weekly allowance to put a bit of petrol in his car and have a bit of spending money. If he wants more than that then he will need to find a temporary job. Most people think we are mad just handing him money over but hopefully by the end of this he will be well on the way to financial independence at last!0 -
