Have you tinkered with Performance Mode at all?

My friend has the S7 Edge and when it’s on it seems to last longer.
It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.
  • I got a Moto G4 a couple years back after some advice from this forum. It has served me well and while it's got a bit of time left in it, I wanted to see what I should be looking at now.

I've seen people raving about the Honor 9/10, OnePlus and Nokia 6 (8?) but undecided on which one to go for.

I'll primarily be using it for social media apps, banking, listening to music and any ad-hoc apps as needed (can't imagine it'll be anything intensive). A half-decent camera would be nice and I'm not too fussed about NFC but as long as it's got a decent screen, battery, expandable storage and headphone jack I'll be happy.

Xiaomi have decent, reasonably priced phones for around £170 to £220 depending on the model. You can often buy them on Amazon or Amazon marketplace - best to go for a UK seller rather than importing from China. With the latter you would be liable for duty and VAT plus Amazon usually has good customer service if there are problems.

You do not pay import duty on imported phones from China, just VAT as a percentage of the declared (or assessed) value.

I’m unable to comment on Xiaomi but Nokia run ‘pure’ Android and HMD Global (who have licenced the name) have said they will be updated regular in terms of security patches and operating systems.

I’ve stupidly bricked it at the moment but purchased a Nokia 3 a few weeks back and for a £80 handset the build quality is very solid.

  • Got a Moto e4 from Argos for 70 quid. It is superb for the money and I'm used to an iPhone 7.

May be liable for VAT (not import duty), I certainly wasn't a month ago although I agree about Amazon's service. That said, Xiaomi are in talks with carriers to sell their products in the UK and I suspect it will be fairly soon when you can do this.

That's Android One that the Nokia runs which is exactly what the Xiaomi A2 at least runs (can't say I'd researched the rest of the line up).
