Thank you for the review, I am very much interested in your observation. You have got an Android One device, no (or less) bloatware Android OS, directly arranged with Google.

I would assume that your great user experiences is contributed by Android One device - a clean pure no bloatware Android experience.

I think you will get Android Pie 9) upgrade sometime. I look forward to your report in the future!

I become more interested in Android One device than before.

Calling it a review is stretching the point somewhat :)

I think the only thing that can't be removed is the Mi Feedback app which is tiny and can be hidden. I got my Vodafone, Three & Giffgaff sims this morning so I can check out the other 3 carriers (I moved here 4 or 5 months ago and haven't checked them out yet).

It'll be a few days before I get the opportunity though.
  • I didn't think I'd notice any difference in speed as I'd never thought there was an issue with my Voda SU6 but it is way quicker, Very slick and smooth, just updating apps over WiFi goes much faster. The cameras much improved too, I like the bokeh effect when using the portrait mode especially.

Downside is that the signal on Plusnet seems a bit weaker and data speedtests are definitely slower although using apps outside is still faster. I've ordered sims on O2, Three & Virgin to check on whether it's generic or just related to the EE frequencies.

First day back at work yesterday and I was getting a cracking signal with full bars and back to 26Mbps DL & 8Mbps UL speeds (my usual on Plusnet) using a different transmitter, I might have been hasty blaming the phone for a weaker signal at home.

Now I'm really interested in what the other carriers show at home.

I managed to test sims from Vodafone, Three & Giffgaff (for O2) on both my old phone (Vodafone SU6) and the new one and they both show similar reception so the new phone is fine. I've started a move from Plusnet (EE) to Sky today for their quad data deal (2GB/UL/UL @ £6 a month) as the O2 signal is more stable here and I know it works well in my other main areas I'm likely to be.
  • Main phone have a Samsung S9 (single SIM) that was about £650 as main phone and second phone (spare) have a XIAOMI REDMI 5 PLUS 64GB / 4GB RAM / 6" / 12MP camera/ Dual Sim that I got on Amazon for £165.

Honestly, I do not notice hardly any difference between them for virtually everything I use on them. I should just have bought 2 Xiaomi 5 pluses. Would recommend.

NFC isn't important for most people.

I'll stick with my card for the time-being.

And compare that Xiaomi phone to something like the Moto G5, which doesn't necessarily have a great camera, but the Moto G range is generally considered amongst the best value spec/price available in the UK market.

I'll second the Moto G range. I just got the G6 plus which is a little above the budget but there are cheaper options and they are made by Lenovo.

I've had NFC in the past and although it's interesting and has possibilities I'd rather keep my payments to my card as well to reduce possible fraud. Certainly now a deal breaker for me.

On a separate note I requested a Sky sim yesterday afternoon and it fell through the letterbox this morning which is pretty damn quick.

I phoned Plusnet for my PAC yesterday as well (got straight through ) and had a short but excellent conversation with them. Thumbs up for both companies so far. My number should transfer tomorrow.
