BT price increases September 2018

I still didn't get any e-mail so I called up and BT said they'd e-mailed me last night. The chap e-mailed again and nothing was arriving (and nothing in spam), so he resent it from his personal e-mail, which confirmed it was going up 2.50 a month. He said 70% of people have now been told about the price rises.
There is an offer link for a new 18 month contract, keeping me paying 31.99 a month. I'll probably move, as I think I can get fibre from SSE for 24 a month.0 -
Strangely enough I have just received my email from BT while looking at this thread, spooky!!0

Received my email this afternoon, phoned up BT to drop the price to £25.99 a month. I had Vodafone as the backup option lined up in case they wouldn't budge on price for a slower speed but I'm not complaining as it's dropped from £28.99 a month. Not bad for Fibre 1 unlimited with a download speed of ~ 75Mbps
Yes I know I could have gotten it cheaper by switching away but better the devil you know (also the free WiFi hotspots do come in handy when out and about)0 -
Price rise email received today as well.
Time to start looking for another deal.0 -

I left SSE for BT in November & never will I sign up with them again unless they move from Daisy Wholesale who supplies SSE with their broadband.
Speed was throttled terribly every evening without fail. Streaming was impossible for me anyway.
I received a refund for the time I was with them & allowed to leave my contract early as an apology.0 -
<Sigh> I find these mid-contract price hikes very tedious. You spend ages going through the process of selecting the cheapest package that meets your needs before switching or going back on contract, only to be met with a price hike 10 weeks later.
Does anyone know of any landline & broadband providers that provide a guarantee not to raise prices during a contract period? A bit like tesco do for mobile phone customer?
I know we can just opt to leave the contract, but having to go through the time-consuming process every few weeks isn't really sustainable for me. Surprised that Ofcom allows these companies to do this.
you_llneverwalkalone, thanks for the warning about SSE. I had been considering them as an alternative.0 -

TalkTalk ... if you're prepared to risk them. (They're OK as long as nothing goes wrong - if it does then customer service can make self-harming seem a positive way forward).0 -
got my email this afternoon. not as bad as weeks ago but only resigned up in january - sigh - so once again my bt sport light was on a different end date and will be made worse by this.
wonder why they changed the name from infinity to Superfast Fibre 1 Unlimited?
but i see they are talking about a 9.99 delivery fee when i already have the router !?! yeesh.
just noticed that the are only guaranteeing the price in the new contract with bt plus which is only available for the higher priced packages2023 wins - zilch, nada, big fat duck. quack quack,0 -
£22/month for Vodafone with a £50 Amazon voucher, or £25/month at NowTV, comes with Anytime calls(normally an £8/month add-on), seem to be the alternatives. BT need to be offering less than £25/month on their retention offer to keep people.0
