I got my email today. Broadband is going up by £0.00. Call charges are increasing but almost no calls made from my landline so not concerned.

How come yours isn't going up?

When the prices went up in January some customers were given fixed price deals on 18 month contracts.

I signed up for BB in January with Line Rental Saver. I was kind of expecting that to mostly see me through to the next round of price rises. Why can they not honour prices, or at the very least not increase them more often than once a year?

Anyway .... how difficult is it for me to bail and reclaim the pro-rata balance of my upfront line rental saver payment? Not just theoretically, but in practice too?

You're protected from the price rise. So they wouldn't release you from your contract unless your broadband price is affected. If the price of your broadband goes up, you can leave penalty-free and claim a pro rata refund of your LRS.

My broadband price is going up, by £2.50 a month. They said so in an email.

My understanding from previous discussions is that whereas they used to confiscate the line rental saver when BB but not LR went up, it's later changed so that if it's a tied product that's increasing, like BB, then the Line Rental Saver can be reclaimed?

They used to confiscate LRS but not anymore - Ofcom ruled that customers must be able to leave penalty-free, and this includes a pro rata refund of any outstanding LRS.

If your BB price is increasing, you can give notice to leave and ask for a pro rata refund of your LRS. I had the same concerns and BT confirmed over the phone that pro rata LRS can be refunded.

    Thanks lloydyyy.

Are there any additional complications with having ordered the free caller display subject to a 12 month commitment, or does that fall under the same category as Ofcom ruled with LRS?

Falls under the same category, AFAIK. Your broadband would be subject to, say, a 12 month contract. So price changes would give you the right to leave penalty-free, and I'd imagine this would also be the same for any other commitments linked to your package as they all fall under the same contract, like BT Sport, caller display, etc.

Ofcom have ruled that Caller Display is free after 1st October.
