My Mum had another stroke a few days ago and they found a small bleed on her brain. We’re lucky she’s still here. She’s lost the use of one side of her body atm and her ability to swallow has been affected.
I really can’t cope with much else. Why does life continue to be so awful to me and my family over and over again? My parents are the kindest and most selfless people you could hope to meet, they deserve none of this.

I can’t even go home and help my Dad or visit my Mum at the moment as i’m still having car trouble and am still being messed around by the garage. DS is also on half term and it’s not the environment for him to be in either.

So, I’m trying to carry on as best I can.
I took DS to a local country park today. It was £3 each to get in and it poured down as soon as we got the furthest point away from the car or any form of shelter. We were both drenched and fed up so cut our visit short. I bought us lunch at a supermarket cafe on the way home, it only cost £8 for both of us as DS’s meal was free with mine.
We detoured to Argos on the way home so I could pick up a blind and a bin i’d ordered using a £10 voucher my dad gave me and a £5 code I had.

Unfortunately I haven’t kept the healthy eating up this week. OH continues to buy me stuff i shouldn’t be eating (he is skinny and can eat what he likes without putting on weight) and I find eating and cooking healthily requires me to be constantly shopping for fresh food which I don’t seem to have the time or money to do. I don’t know how to make it easier.

I am going to take DS to the cinema tomorrow. The weather is supposed to be rubbish and I can use the meerkat 2 for 1 deal on the tickets. I always take our own drink and snack for DS too, no grossly overpriced cinema snacks for us.

We are both shattered, neither of us slept well last night, so baths and early nights for both of us tonight.

  • Really sorry to hear about your mum, hope she makes a full recovery.
You really aren't having an easy time of it. :(
Don't worry too much about healthy eating, sometimes we just have to do what he have to do to keep carrying on.
I find that batch cooking things like curries and chillis, soups etc helps me with limiting both cost and time/effort when it comes to healthy eating, but it's a really difficult habit to keep up and I'm not doing very well on that front either at the moment.
Sending you big hugs, things will start looking up eventually - you're due a bit of good luck!

Thank you all for your love and kindness. Mum had a better day yesterday, I was so relieved, so that was a positive to go to bed on, although I had another awful night of tossing and turning.
I just hope and pray she continues to improve.

I've made a lasagne this morning for DS's tea tonight, using mince from the freezer and some veg from the fridge that needed using up (cut up to within an inch of its life so that he hopefully eats it).
There should be a couple of portions to freeze too.

I've managed to squeeze £10 out of the budget to send to the mortgage as an OP, just to make myself feel better. I should be able to (hopefully) reach my target of around £180 this month (before next payday) when the tax credits and child benefit is paid in June.
I will also start looking for things to sell on eBay and Book - I'm sure I have some bits and pieces no longer needed.

I've also created a 'holidays' pot within YNAB so I can save little bits in there monthly and treat us to a holiday or a weekend somewhere next year without feeling so guilty about spending savings. I transferred just over £10 to that pot too to top it up to £70.

I will be returning an item for £12 which I bought but won't wear, so that can go in one of the pots when it is refunded.

DS and I are off to the cinema today, I ordered the tickets last night with the meerkat movies deal, so that has saved me around £10.

I need to fill the car up today. There is £40 in the diesel budget so that will be plenty.
I may also buy DS some new trainers if we see some that fit him. There's £30 in the pot for those, am hoping that will cover it.

I also need to pick up some lengths of wood to pack some drawer runners off a cupboard and I was debating buying tiles for the kitchen as they are currently cheap in the DIY store. I found some I liked online and ordered a sample for £1. I went to order them, but with postage at £24.99 under £100 spend, I very quickly decided against them. I'll go for a similar, cheaper options which I can pick up instead. They'll do just fine.
They should cost me around £36 which will come out of my 'spends' budget.

Have a good day all x
