  • Hi MeandO
I'm finally having some 'me time' and catching up on all of the diaries I'm so far behind on. You have had a really awful few weeks, and I'm so sorry to read about everything that you've had to deal with. You are such a strong woman to have kept going through everything life has thrown in your direction and you should be proud of yourself for that. I think that you're an amazing human being, always putting your ds first and never giving up.
Hope that your mum is on the up soon.
If you ever want to drop me a message then please do - I wish I could offer more than a shoulder, but it is here if you need it.

Oh CCL, it's lovely to hear from you. xx I too am not up to speed with most of the diaries including yours, so I do hope things are going OK for you at the moment. I will try and catch up with everyone later this week.

Your message has made the tears roll down my face, thank you for your support as ever. Like many of the lovely people on here, I wish we lived close by in RL and could put the world to rights over a g&t or two! Sending lots of love your way xx

Today I tried to apply online for extra borrowing on the mortgage and although they approved the agreement in principle I have to speak to an 'actual person' to complete the application. I've emailed the mortgage advisor in branch that I always use who has sorted all of my mortgages for me over the past 9 years and now have an appointment booked with him for Monday morning. I was hoping to get it all done today online for peace of mind but Monday it is.

DS and I have had a lovely few days together which has been much needed. We've been doing some art activities after school that he's really been enjoying and we went to the cinema on Monday and had the screen to ourselves!

I got back into a book that I first started reading a year or so ago and never got round to finishing - 'The Wisdom of Sally Red Shoes.' I enjoyed it so much and have found reading so therapeutic this week that I've ordered another by the same author. In true MSE style it's a 2nd hand purchase online for only £3.30 inc postage, so am happy enough to pay that.

Today I returned a parcel for refund - some new boots to replace my leaking ones and a couple of jumpers/tops I'd bought for myself but were awful (on me) when arrived. I might just make do with the leaky boots for now, I hate shopping and spending money on myself and everything I've ordered so far has been disappointing. That should be around £80 refunded when it's processed.

Not much else to report, hope all is well with everyone. xx

Just had a refund of £43 that I'd completely forgotten about so that was a nice surprise. I've split it between the gifts pot and 'spends' pot on YNAB.

Morning all, it's a lovely blue sky morning here today, am hoping to get out for a walk with OH later on today before it gets dark.
DS is at his Dad's today, but we had a lovely hour of doing some more artwork together after school yesterday. It's something he's not shown much interest in before, but is very enthusiastic about it at the moment so I'm actively encouraging it! I'm very creative and have a job in the industry so am pleased it's something we can sit and do together.

We were due to get our house back this week with the scaffolding finally coming down, but an issue has been spotted which now needs to be addressed. Basically, I think the builders have cut corners and not done what they said they were originally going to do and now this is causing issues, but I will leave them to sort it out. I will not be impressed if they try and charge me more.

Mr A's were selling off packs of 10 of their finest sausages for 50p the other day, from £4! So I bought 4 trays. There were hundreds there, I think someone over-ordered. On looking in the YS section, I saw they had more there for 26p a tray, but decided to leave those for someone else who needed them more than me as I was already pleased with my 50p bargain. Today I've split them up into 4's and have frozen them. We're not a big red-meat eating household, but DS loves his sausage sandwiches so it'll save me lots of £'s. :)

I've purchased a couple more presents from Amazon but topped up a £50 gift card the other day to get the £6 bonus, so it has come off of there. I just need to buy something for OH's parents and then my Christmas shopping is done. I need to start wrapping things now, not looking forward to that job.

The bank are now saying I can't apply to borrow more until January as it has to be 6 months since the mortgage was first taken out. They are mistaken as six months has passed, but I wasn't in the mood to dispute it, so will have to wait until January now. I was hoping to get it done before Christmas so I could rest easy knowing I can pay for everything. Oh well.

The weekend seemed to fly and had its ups and downs. I'm so incredibly tired though as I haven't slept well for days. DS had a nightmare one night and so was in with me from 4am - I'd only got to sleep around 1.30am and didn't sleep much after that.
Definitely need an early night tonight.

I still haven't wrapped any presents. I have to do so in the next few days as we are hopefully going to see my family at the end of the week for a few days, all being well, and I need to take their gifts with us.

The dishwasher is on with a load of tupperware in there that I found in the loft at the weekend in an unpacked box from the house move. I wondered where it had all gone! Whilst up there, I noticed a couple of the timbers felt damp with no obvious reason as to why - no sign of water leaking through the roof or anything -  so I will get the roofer to double check that in the next few weeks as work has just been done up there. I hope to god it's nothing to worry about, but of course, I'm already worried about it...

I’ve wrapped everything! I forced myself to sit down and tackle it in a few hours whilst DS’s was at his Dad’s, so I’m relieved it’s all done now.

I’ve received a refund for the boots and clothes I sent back a week or so ago, so that’s gone straight off the credit card. There will be a positive balance of around £400 on the CC soon as I received the electric log burner/fire to replace the actual one that was removed and I really didn’t like it and don’t think it was working properly, so it’s being collected tomorrow. I’ll have to contact the CC company and see if I can get the positive balance sent back to me - I’d already paid the balance off the card.

I’ve requested a payout of just over £8 from TCB and chased a £140 payment that has been confirmed for ages and is late being paid. Hopefully they honour it.

Not much else to report, hope everyone’s well and having a good week xx

  • I've just landed on your diary and just wanted to say how impressive you are - apart from the money side of things, you're handling so much so brilliantly. Christmas is such a minefield sometimes. Just wanted to cheer you on!
