I thought everything was going too well this morning, I should have known… I walked into DS’s bedroom after the rain we had this morning and found water seeping through the wall, all of which I decorated in the summer. I’ve contacted the builders with photos, it’s obviously a result of something not being done properly, so they’ll have to deal with it. Maybe TMI, but I instantly got stomach cramps and was ill afterwards. These issues terrify me after our past experience. I’ve felt ill all afternoon and in my head I’m calculating how long we should reasonably stay here before finding something better.  :(

  • So sorry to read about the water seeping through. I hope you get a positive and timely response from the builders.

    Thank you HSL2.

I've put the dehumidifier in DS's room this morning and the hygrometer (?) shows that the room isn't damp, but I'll leave it running for a few days anyway. It's raining today and so my anxiety levels are high waiting for the water to show through the wall.  :/ I haven't heard back from the builders yet, but will be on their case later today if I don't.

DS has gone back to school today so the house suddenly feels very empty. I miss my little buddy when he's not here. I'm working today, but it's very quiet at the moment so I don't have a lot to do. I've tidied a couple of things, wiped round the bathrooms and have used up some not-very-nice cereal I had in the cupboard for my breakfast. It was practically free in the first place via a shopping app, but I won't be buying it in the future. It's filled my tummy this morning though, so am grateful.
I have a package to return to Amazon today - something that replaced a faulty item bought for DS for Christmas. Unfortunately the replacement is also faulty so it's going back and I have sourced him a different type of the same thing.
I received a refund of one other item I sent back last week, am awaiting a second but only posted it a couple of days ago.
Off to get another jumper on - I'm determined to keep the heating on low during the days now as we've had it on daily over the Christmas break. I really can't wait for some warmer, dryer weather now.

I've sorted through the cupboard in our little spare room/office and now it's half empty with the unwanted contents either being put into the charity shop pile, recycled or thrown out. It means I've been able to relocate a large box that was cluttering up my wardrobe too, giving me more space in there and now I can actually work on the desk in there too. There is a high reach platform ladder folded up in there too at the moment which I have borrowed to fill in some cracks and paint bit that need touching up, so I need to stop putting that off and get it done so that I can give the ladder back and reclaim that space.

I've decided I'm going to get a little more brutal with de-cluttering this year. I don't have a lot of 'stuff' but definitely more than I need and we don't have a lot of space to store such things in this smaller house.
There is not much in the attic other than the Christmas decorations and camping stuff, although the previous owners left random tiles, carpet and other 'carp' up there which I will sort out and give away or throw out in the summer. DS has way more stuff than me, but we are planning on sorting through old toys etc later this month when we both have to isolate for the weekend prior to his hospital appointment. I will go through his clothes again though and see what else he has grown out of as he had lots of new clothes for Christmas and some were only just fitting the last time I sorted through everything in December.

My ex husband gifted me a decent digital camera for Christmas back in the year we split up. We split just before Christmas and it was an awful time. With one thing another, I didn't actually use it for some months and by the time I tried it, it wouldn't work. I still have it and just found it, still in the box, so have just ordered a new battery for it to see if I can get it to work. Would be nice to actually get it working now.

I've heard from the builders who are going to investigate the issue so I feel a bit of relief about that. In fact, I'll admit here I cried when I had the text from one of them, reassuring me they'll get it sorted. I underestimate how much these issues affect me.

Goodness you have been so unlucky over recent years with house issues.  Good that the builders have said they will sort it out though. Very stressful for you as you are coping with this alone really.  I find decluttering very therapeutic.  The older I get the less stuff I want to accumulate.

The neighbour has paid me for the shared repair costs, so I have banked that cheque and am waiting for it to clear. It won't stay mine for long though as I will have to pay the final chunk of money to the builders soon. It does mean I won't have to withdraw money from my Help to Save account though so won't lose £75 in bonus money that I would have otherwise lost.
I'm still waiting on the remortgage offer.

I slept really well at the weekend but felt no better for it unfortunately and just felt exhausted. Last night was a terrible night of sleep again and this morning I'm feeling very panicky, full of anxiety, sick to my stomach and constantly on the edge of tears. DS has not been terribly well since before Christmas, he has been so very tired, pale and has no energy even after a good night's sleep. This morning he had an horrendous nosebleed which almost made us late for school, so I've emailed the doctor to ask they run some blood tests on him. It's awful to see him struggling with everything. My anxiety means the worse case scenarios are running through my head :(

My Mum had surgery last week and seems to be doing ok on it so I'm very thankful for that. It won't fix anything, but hopefully help her with the pain a bit for now. My Dad had scans to determine whether the cancer is active or has grown so we are anxiously waiting for those results. He also had a worrying heart consultation so has to have further tests and needs treatment for that problem too - the nephrectomy for the cancer put such a strain on his body that his heart was quite badly damaged in the process. :( They are both still here though which is the main thing, even if we can't see them often.

My boss has just sent a meeting request for tomorrow for our whole department, that's never usually a sign of good news, so now I'm worried about that. Not much else to report, am definitely feeling the Monday blues today.

It's no wonder you didn't sleep well with all that going on in your head & your life.  I hope things resolve themselves on the good side very very soon.

Thank you badmemory and CCL, it's much appreciated xx

I'm tired again today but determined to have a better day than yesterday.
I've sent an OP of £127.74 to the mortgage to round it down to £62K exactly, it will be back up to around the £80K mark if this remortgage goes through but I'm determined to pay it down as quickly as I can.

A lovely doctor called this morning regarding DS and has booked him in for blood tests and has prescribed him some 'magic cream patches' to make it painless for DS. He had a sense of humour and came across as a very kind man, I wish all doctors were like him, I've dealt with some really awful ones throughout DS's condition and both of my parents illnesses.
