I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas. I’m not even going to talk about mine other than to say it was one big stress that I’d rather forget but has made me re-evaluate some relationships and the way I let myself be treated by some people. I’m exhausted because of the last couple of weeks, but DS was happy with his gifts and seemed to have an enjoyable time so that’s the main thing.Unfortunately my sister and her partner have COVID and my Mum is being tested today. My sister is diabetic and has a heart condition and my Mum is obviously extremely high risk so I’m living on my nerves at the moment. My Mum is due much-needed surgery in a week, so if she has COVID it will be delayed which will be devastating too.
Surprisingly, I’m doing well money wise and today have paid off the 0% finance account for DS’s tech bundle I bought him for Christmas. There was £515 outstanding which would have been spread over 2 years, but I wanted to pay it off so I owe nothing other than my mortgage. It has been paid off thanks to the credit card refund, cashback and a couple of other refunds. It has saved me paying £25.75 a month for the next two years too.My sister very kindly gave me some money at Christmas time too. I saved half and paid just under half off the mortgage, taking the balance down to £62,500 exactly. It was nice to make an overpayment and my sis was pleased as to how I’d used the money.I need to send two items back which were unsuitable Christmas gifts I’d bought for someone, so that will be a refund of just over £60. Just need to wrap the parcels and get them posted.DS’s paediatrician phoned me yesterday with a date in January for DS’s exploratory surgery we have been waiting for for over 2 years now. I am pleased it is finally being done as it will hopefully get to the bottom of his condition, but I’m just terrified for obvious reasons - the surgery itself and what they will find. Anxiety is sky high now which is no surprise considering this and the past few weeks I’ve had.I’m no fan of NYE so an early night will be my idea of a brilliant evening. I do hope next year is kinder to everyone though, I think we are all at the end of our fuses now. XxMortgage @ 03/2019: £125,000, Now: £52,581.79

That last sentence is so so true isn't it. I am feeling so unbelievably flat atm and just want something nice to happen for once.
Sorry your Xmas wasn't the best, but well done on re-evaluating some relationships.Debt free Feb 2021 🎉1 -

This time of year never helps with that let alone with all the other current stresses thrown in for good measure. I hope you have a peaceful and healthy 2022.Mortgage @ 03/2019: £125,000, Now: £52,581.79

I'm the same as you - hoping to get into bed by 10pm tomorrow night and wake up in 2022 feeling rested with the pandemic finally doing one. I'm sorry that Christmas hasn't been great - please make one of your NY resolutions to put your own needs towards the top of the pile. I'm aiming for it and I know that you're the same as me in that it's just so difficult to do that.
My sister and her family lost their Christmas to Covid too - I hope that your mum is ok. Lots of love...Not giving up

Time to take back control

Happy New Year all.
I woke up with a random black eye on new year's day with no injury or cause to it - hope it's not a sign of the year to come!
Yesterday I applied for the extra borrowing on the mortgage and I hope it's going through ok. I've sent back the required documents but was told to wait for another email today, not sure what that is about.
I wasn't keen on increasing the term by 7 years as the bank insisted - apparently they only deem it affordable this way despite it meaning my monthly payment will be £100 less than I'm currently paying - doesn't make any sense - but like the advisor I always use said, I can overpay the mortgage to reduce that term greatly so am trying not to get too hung up about it. It's the only way at the moment anyway.
I've got someone coming out to measure up for a new front door this week as the old one is causing water to come in around the sides and seep into the wall around it. The garden guy has also got in touch to propose a start date. It will be amazing when that is done as our garden has been unusable since we moved here and currently seems to be a toilet for next door's dog. It's a major job though which will involve digging earth out and creating levels, so is not something I can do myself to save money. He's doing the bare minimum for me though and I'll be doing everything else to make it into anice space we can actually use.
I'm one step closer to receiving money from my neighbour for the shared cost of the roof repairs that I paid for a few months ago. Hopefully that is received within the next few weeks as will be a £1K buffer which I could really do with right now.
