I had to up my offer by £5k to get the vendor to take the house off the market and was overjoyed when they accepted. It was £70,000 less than the sale price of this house and my mortgage would almost be cut in half and I'd be so much better off every month!
Unfortunately it was short lived, I've had to withdraw the offer due to issues I've since found out about. I'm so disappointed, I even took DS past there and he loved the look of the house.  I'm trying to tell myself it just wasn't meant to be the one for us, but I'm in floods of tears on and off today. I really am struggling to stay positive.

I paid the solicitor for the searches yesterday, so I'm hoping I won't lose that money and they can keep it on file for when I do eventually find a house.

Hello all, I’m afraid I have good and bad news. The good is really good and the bad is just devastating for my family.

There’s been a bit of a turn of events these past few days and to cut the story short, after a bit of research and a sleepless night of thinking things over, I resubmitted my offer on the little house I viewed last week and it was accepted, so I’m buying it. DS viewed it with me yesterday and loved it too which I was so very relieved about. I am excited and terrified all at once, these past bad experiences have really made me so nervous about buying a house. I’ve already instructed the solicitors and had my mortgage meeting over the phone. Yesterday I also contacted a surveyor who was recommended to me by someone I trust and paid out £516 for them to turn the house over from top to bottom. I’m praying that it passes with flying colours. I need to contact removals next and get some boxes from them to start packing.

I decluttered the kitchen drawers and cupboards this week and offered the resulting spares up on Facebook. Today I dropped them off to a lovely lady who was so appreciative and who had obviously not had a lot of luck. It was quite humbling to talk to her. I wish I could help her more.

I also sold a piece of furniture that won’t fit in the new place tonight, bringing £35 in.
I am giving my wonderful friend all of the furniture, bedding  and lights from my spare bedroom. She has had a horrible few years but today finally got amazing news that she’d been allocated a beautiful brand new home for her and her children, so this will furnish one of the kids bedrooms for her. It couldn’t go to a nicer person.
My job for the weekend, as well as helping my friend move stuff into her house, is to clear my garage. I need to sort what to keep to go in the attic at the new house, (no garage or shed there currently), what’s to go to the tip, what’s to sell/donate and what’s going to OH’s parents garage as they’ve kindly offered to store bits for me until I can sort a shed.

Tomorrow I need to take everything out of DS’s bedroom and give everything a scrub. There is a horrible smell of mildew appearing in there over the past few days and I can’t pinpoint it. I have a horrible feeling it’s down to a leak somewhere which wouldn’t surprise me, and if it is, I want to report it to the developer to sort out before the new owners move in.

Onto the bad news I’m afraid.
The reason I’ve not been feeling as excited as I should be about the house move is because my Dad is currently really poorly in hospital again. The weekend was a horrendous one for them with an ambulance called three times over three days and finally, a call from the hospital at 1.30am to say there is an ambulance on the way as his latest bloods are horrendous and showed he was close to renal failure and a medical team was waiting for him. If a community nurse hadn’t insisted on taking bloods late at night and delivering them to the hospital himself, my Dad would likely not be here now.
His remaining kidney is not functioning well and he is struggling. I don’t know what the next few days or weeks hold but I am praying he recovers well. We are all devastated at how this has played out and how much he is suffering in it all. He is the kindest, nicest and most selfless man you could ever hope to meet. Again, life is not fair. Thank goodness I have DS who is my little comic distraction when he can see I’m in need of a smile and whose cuddles make me feel like the luckiest Mum to ever grace this planet. Without him, I would be lost, and without his much adored Grandad, DS will feel like his world has stopped turning, as will mine. Please keep fighting Dad. Xxxxxxxx

  • I am so sorry to hear about your Dad.  Both your parents seem to be going through horrendous health issues this year.  I do hope he recovers ok.  Well done to the community nurse for getting the bloods done and spotting his kidneys weren't working.

Glad that the house move is back on again and hopefully the survey won't throw up anything.  Always a bit of a lottery with buying a house, even a new one  as you know but most things can be sorted. We had a dodgy heating system in ours when we bought it more than 30 years ago and altogether I think it was about 5 years before it was working efficiently after a replacement boiler and removing the hot water tank so the system was replumbed.
