Hello all, hope you’re all having a nice weekend.

Mine has been uneventful, but ok. I changed both beds yesterday and got the washing done and dry, another couple of loads were done today so it’s all up to date and we have fresh beds tonight.
I sorted another bag for the charity shop and have given my neighbour a household item I was getting rid of that they said they’d like. I took all of the furniture in one of the spare bedrooms to my friend last week, so I can start to pack things in that empty spare room now. I’m slowly managing to clear some things and downsize our stuff.
All of the Christmas gifts for my family are bought and wrapped, apart from my Dad who I need to buy something else for. It’s tricky to know what to buy him now though. Something I bought him a few months back is sadly no longer suitable for him after everything that’s happened. 😕
The extent of Christmas with my family this year will be a brief meeting with my sister at a motorway services to exchange gifts. 😢 So sad, but necessary, we cannot risk unknowingly transmitting this virus to my parents. Sadly, I think they are going to be on their own at Christmas too, they are just not bothering with it this year which is exactly how I feel. We are planning to meet up next week so I need to find something for my Dad within the next few days.

The other item I put on eBay sold for £20 today so I’m pleased to get a bit of money back for that as I was considering putting it in the charity shop bag. I also sold another household item locally that I can’t take with me for £40 which was collected yesterday. I have around £80 in my purse which I’d like to bank, but our local bank shuts on Saturdays and is only open 10am-3pm on weekdays which is really rubbish for us working folk.
Today I’ve sent £200 to the credit card to pay for some Christmas gifts I put on there, there is less than £100 on there now which I’ll pay off this week. I have finished buying for DS, OH and my family other than my Dad now, so I just have a couple more bits to pick up for OH’s family.

The survey is being completed on the house tomorrow so I am praying everything comes back as ok, particularly the roof, which I have concerns about. If I’m being honest, I love the house but it still doesn’t feel like ‘the one’ but I really don’t think any house will. I have never really had that feeling when viewing any houses, other than ones which are way out of my budget!
I am still devastated about our last lovely house being back on the market right now (had to be now when I am in the position to buy and haven’t been able to find anything didn’t it 😥) but I keep reminding myself of the problems that house has and trying not to look at it through rose tinted glasses. It’s hard though, it really does feel like a bereavement.

    What a rubbish day.
My wonderful Dad has been taken back into hospital after being home for only a day with more complications. 😥 I am so desperately worried, he doesn’t seem to be winning this fight at the moment. 😥

Then, at close of business, I get an email stating my purchasers want another survey done on my property. I can’t help but feel like I’m now being messed around by them. They’re pushing my solicitor for a completion date 5 weeks away yet they are only just now deciding on further surveys on a new build, now they know I have parted with over £1k on the purchase of mine already.
The same house as mine is now on the market round the corner for £45k more than I have sold this to them for (yes, £45k more!), so if they start asking for reductions due to X, Y or Z I will be pulling the plug on this whole sale and will be relisting with another agent next year for an up to date price. I am sick of the whole process tbh, I really don’t need the extra stress at the moment.

The estate agent has failed to respond to my email of yesterday so I’m in the dark as to what’s going on at the moment, their communication is terrible. Also, someone else round the corner from me has now put their same house type on the market today for £42k more than I’ve sold for now, so that’s two of them. I’ve definitely sold this too cheap now.
I’m waiting to see what the survey on my purchase uncovers, if anything major, I’ll be pulling out for now.

The mortgage payment has come out today and I’ve sent an extra £20.52 to it to round it down to exactly £96,550. No big OP’s at the moment, but just little ones to keep the balance rounded down. Once the tax credits hit the account tomorrow I’ll pay off the credit card and allocate that money to a few other categories.

    Hope all's well with everyone.
It's been a bit of a stressful week (what other types are there these days?), but I'm looking forward to a bit of time off over Christmas even though we won't be seeing my family and DS won't be with me Christmas Eve/Christmas morning.  :(

In house news, things seem to be slowly moving forward. I received the survey back today and it's a lot better than I anticipated with no major issues detected. There are a few things that need attention to the tune of around £3,500, so I have emailed the agent to ask if the vendor will agree to a £2,000 reduction which I think is fair and means I have still paid over asking price for the house.
I am putting aside the fact that I could now get a lot more money for this house. If the sale and purchase in progress proceeds without problems then I will go ahead with it all, if things start to go wrong, I will withdraw from the market and remarket and another house to buy in the new year. I'll let fate decide on this one.
My buyers seems to have settled a bit although don't appear to be the most swift at arranging things considering they want to be moved in in a little over a month's time.

I have done all of my Christmas shopping now, aside from two gifts I will jointly purchase with OH for around £20 each. I have bought a magazine subscription as a gift today using my clubcard vouchers so that cost me nothing. I just need to find the will to wrap everything now.

  • Well done on being so organised as to have the Christmas presents bought. I need to find the will ( and the £s) to get the gifts!

So, my house purchase has fallen through. 😕

Further issues had been raised with the house and I was organising trades to look at them, but shockingly, I had a call from the manager of the estate agency tonight, who showed genuine concern for me and was extremely honest about serious ‘neighbour issues’ they’d been made aware of today. We’re talking seriously crazy stuff here too.  :o She basically said she wouldn’t sleep at night knowing she’s sold that house to me and I was on my own there a lot of the time. 😮 I am extremely grateful for her honesty and genuine concern. It sounds like a lucky escape, albeit an expensive one. I’m nearly £1,000 down.  :(
I’m fully expecting my buyers to back out too when they hear the news tomorrow, but it’s probably best that they do. I’ll be taking the house off the market for a few months and taking a break from it all. I’ll look at starting the whole process again in the spring.
    You couldn’t make it up.

  • Sorry to read about the house news. Although very disappointing, much better to deal with feeling disappointed now, than the shock of  discovering the neighbour issues after you had moved in.

Sorry to hear it, but even a palace can turn into worse than a slum if you have dodgy neighbours.  I think you have "swerved" one.
